It was great to see her on TV. I loved the darling part too. And the husband line gave me chills too.

Jean, I like your "final" comments--very well put together. This is a character who makes her living being cagey and projecting a supreme self-confidence. That lawyer is extremely intelligent with a highly developed sense of irony about what she does. Bernadette captured those qualities perfectly.

I actually think she could have done better. I wasn't thrilled. Maybe because SVU is my favorite show and I hold it to a very high standard; but I've seen Bernadette do TV appearances. I thought her Ally McBeal character acting was better.

I was really hoping for a courtroom scene. I think her character would shine more in that setting.
I did like her cool attitude though.
Very confident in her work.
I think it was her delivery of the lines that was just eh to me.

I would definitely love to see her character come back with a juicier client. It wasn't fun that her client was innocent. lol

I liked that line that Stabler said. That the temperature goes up 5 degrees everytime that woman leaves the room. LOL Ice Queen Lawyer!

I have watched all of the Law and Orders and I don't recall any cross-overs with the defense lawyers. (There have been cross-overs of the detectives, but that's not pertinent here.)

Bebe Neuwirth did a cross over as a lawyer in Criminal Intenet and SVU.

And YES. Excellent job by Bob Saget. I was not expecting a performance like that from him.

Christine, I respectfully disagree. Bernadette's role was the least involved with the actual story so I think she started off a bit handicapped next to the other guest stars though I thought she made the most of the great lines they gave her. "Like I'm Tinkerbell".

But I do agree that if she comes back, which I'm really hoping for, that she will have some good courtroom scenes as I think she will really be able to give a more developed performance and well, quite frankly ROCK!

Karen, I also agree with you that her character is extremely smart. I got the kind of slimy feeling from the DA who said something along the lines that Stella was a piece of work and that whatever she was saying "was a stretch, even for you". Almost like she was the type of lawyer who was willing to stand the truth on its head if it meant winning a case.

Anyway, just my follow-up thoughts to all of this good discussion.

The Tinkerbell line was great, and I almost missed it because it was said so quickly and quietly. Again, it was the line delivery that bothered me.

Bernadette is a very good actress. Both Drama and Comedy. I've seen her do better, so I was just underwhelmed.

I can understand why people want to praise her performance. We're all fans of Bernadette. Stella is a great character, and Bernadette had a good moment or two. Overall I expect more, and I think we will get it should her character be on another episode.

I think Bernadette did a very good job with the limited screen time she was given. I hope they make it a recurring role. I liked how her charecter handled the detectives.

Wasn't Bob Saget known as a....don't know if filthy mouthed is the right word... or a cynical stand up comedian before he became Mr. Full House/America's Funniest Home Video?

Or am I thinking of Alan Thicke (before he was Mr. Seaver)?

I'm not sure exactly, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was. If anyone has seen "The Aristocrats," a documentary about the funniest joke in the world, then you probably know what I'm talking about. It was so hilarious to see Mr. Full House saying probably the most scandalous things in the entire film

She has this "ravaged beauty" look going on. It's very sophisticated, very European. I don't think the masses can relate to it because it's not plastic or processed.

Yes, Jenn, Bob Saget was known as that type of comedian before Full House. And he continues to do some standup after all of the Full House/AFV stuff. I'm just glad to see he didn't take the turn that Michael Richards took. lol

Maybe too strong a phrase? I was trying to convey something in my mind but I may not have come up with the right words. I was basically responding to some comments I saw on other sites saying she looked old or not good. I think she looks sublime--like a real human being who's lived life, and not like the usual celebrity mannikin.

I've just arrived home late and feeling rather jaded from yet another boring meeting, but so happy to see that a package containing a video of this recent Bernadette Law And Order SVU episode was there in the hallway awaiting my arrival. Guess who has suddenly cheered up!
Now all I need is a glass of wine and my TV and Video remote control to make my happiness complete. Isn't life so brilliantly full of such simple pleasures?

Jenny (from London), please get in touch and let me share my good fortune - and the same goes for any other UK BP fan here.

I'm glad Bernadette's appearance made me watch this show- it's an interesting programme, I'll watch it again.

It was good to see BP play such a hard-boiled and tough professional person. I have to say that I found her character, a woman who was a lawyer, much more interesting than her Ally McBeal 'woman in need of a lawyer' character. Even though the role was smaller it was so much bigger in every way.

My only quibble; it would have been great if her client hadn't been exonorated so quickly and she had been forced to represent him in court. I can just see her walking around the courtroom (on the back of her heels like she does) and putting each and every witness through absolute hell!

as Bernadette says....just keep moving on.....
