Um, there was nothing "little girl" about her rendition of "Dame". I think he's still a little bit hung up on her cupie doll image of the 70s and that tainted his entire view of the show.

Your excitement and enthusiasm is positively electric - it almost makes me feel as if I was there.
That reviewer seems to have a very odd and circumscribed perception of BP. I think he misses the point totally. He writes very well but don't you think both his reviews say more about him than they do of Bernadette?
as Bernadette says....just keep moving on.....

| posted: 5/4/2006 at 10:22:33 AM ET Gold (Bob Mackie told her she would match the walls of Avery Fisher Hall). It had a tassel that went across one shoulder and down the other side of her body. Well really the strap did that and the tassel was on the end of it. This is what Jean is referring to that Bernadette used during Rose's Turn. It was a typical Bernadette concert dress: spaghetti straps, low cut, slit up the front. Gold Shoes.

I thought this may be of interest to everyone - Lincoln Center sent out a letter with their donation form for the American Songbook series (I'd guess everyone who attended a concert will receive one), and it starts out with a rave about Bernadette's performance...
"Dear Friend of American Songbook:
I've attended countless performances in Avery Fisher Hall, but never have I witnessed a reaction like that to Bernadette Peters' performance on Monday evening. She certainly gave the audience everything they came for...and more! I trust that you enjoyed the closing night of Lincoln Center's American Songbook series for 2006."

You know, I really don't want to start a big discussion here, but I feel very strongly about something, so I simply must comment. I'll preface by saying that clearly the speaker is a fan; the video is well put together, although it's clear that the speaker is not a performer.
Some of his words are slurred and generally he is hard to understand. Probably turning down the background music and speaking more slowly would help.
Now:
at about 1:39 in the video, the off-camera person doing the interview says something like "how come she's not wearing her wedding ring"; the on-camera speaker says "it would be in bad taste."
====
I am offended by that statement. I know it is the speaker's opinion, and he is entitled to his opinion. However, I find the statement insensitive, and bordering on offensive, and, frankly, ignorant of the ways of the adult world.
Bad taste would be to criticize another's grieving process, however that person sees fit to grieve. Should a widow or widower choose to wear their wedding ring FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES, that is not bad taste, it is respect for the deceased and respect for the marriage committment.
