Let's consider the possibility that Gypsy picks up some ticket sales this month, and the show holds on a bit longer. Will they simply continue on with the schedule that they had for March, or do you think they will take a break and resume shows later on in the year?
Since I am still planning on being in NYC in mid-March, I am wondering if there could be a show happening then.

Unfortunately, it is extremely rare for a show to go on hiatus and re-open later. There are contracts that must be honored, and people have to work. Closing and re-opening would be very costly, rather than a cost-cutting measure. I feel very sad that the show has been struggling so. While I am still holding out for a miracle, I think by the end of next week, we should all be preparing to bid adieu to this wonderful production and a stupendous cast. The show has had a respectable run in a dreadful economy, and for it to close this way, in light of a horrible winter, is sad, but at least the show is soldiering on for the rest of the month. They will close knowing, hopefully, that this revival was apreciated by thousands and thousands of people, and that it offered a brilliant, historic re-interpretation of Mama Rose by one of the great artists in the history of the American Musical theatre. People will always remember this Rose, which will stand proudly beside the Ethel Merman original, and the distinguished company which followed. I am so proud of Bernadette Peters for taking on such an ambitious, arduous role, and for making something so memorable and magical happen. Bravo, Bernadette!
