| posted: 11/8/2008 at 3:48:15 PM ET I just hope that his daughter's allergy issue doesn't make them change their mind and go with a pure-bred dog from a breeder (or worse, a pet shop.) As Bernadette has often stated there ARE pure-breds in shelters (and there are also rescue groups for just about every breed of dog out there.) And being allergic to dogs didn't keep Bernadette from adopting a mutt, did it?

| posted: 11/8/2008 at 6:02:18 PM ET When I heard about this, I couldn't stop smiling. The main reason being that it encourages others to follow this example and think about adopting rescue puppies. I tried to volunteer at my local RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) but I was too young. However, when we went, it was so sad when we had to leave and see all of those little dogs that some people think are just disease ridden, horrible mutts (something that I feel is a very gross misconception). It's great when people in positions of power do good things like this.
Now I've had my rant for the day. lol.
Cheers,

| posted: 11/8/2008 at 10:49:54 PM ET Yeah I think one thing some people forget is that most of the dogs in shelters were someone's PET, they don't just come out of a cave or something, so there's nothing wrong with most of them, they're just there because for one reason or another their owners wouldn't/couldn't care for them anymore. There are a few exceptions (dogs trained to be ruthless kill dogs for example) but those are the minority at most shelters.
