| posted: 11/7/2003 at 5:37:42 PM ET I'm sorry this is so off topic, but it didn't really fit in Theater chat. Also, I want to post this on as many message boards as possible because I'm really mad at SONY, and I want as many people to avoid buying from them as possible.
I ordered a cd from them on October 14th. They sent me a confirmation email and said I would recieve my cd within 3-4 business days. Then on Ocotber 17th I get an email from them saying my order never went through because there was a problem with their website, and that I should re-enter my order. Since they had sent me a confirmation number and email, I emailed them back asking if they were sure my order hadn't gone through because I had recieved a confirmation. Days went by and I recieved no answer from them; so I went to a music store and bought the cd in person. On October 29th (12 days after I sent them an email and had not received an answer) they sent me an email saying that my order had been shipped!
That made me angry....especially since I was able to buy the cd in the store for $18.99, and Sony charged me $23 and change.
So, I emailed their customer service department and was told that I should just send it back and I would recieve a credit. I just received the cd today; 25 days later! Does someone want to tell me how 25 days translated into 3-4 business days!? What kind of business days are they working!? God help them if that charge is not taken off my credit card statement next month!
Anyway, I just had to vent. I also wanted to make my incident publically known so that perhaps you will all think twice before purchasing ANYTHING from Sony's online store. Stick with Amazon.com folks. Or go to the store in person.

I had a problem with Amazon. I wanted to order the latest edition of the Walsh biography of Andrew Lloyd Webber (it included information from Sunset Boulevard to Whistle Down the Wind). I had to return the book twice before I got the correct edition. They had the wrong code information for the 3rd edition. But unlike you,I didn't have to worry about extra charges or anything like that.
On the other hand,I recently ordered the third edition of Gerald Bordman's American Musical Theatre: A Chronicle. The list price was around $45 or so,but they had it marked down to $30,and it included free shipping, which made a delay in shipping (I didn't need it right away,so I was content to wait a few days in order to get free shipping).
It was scheduled to arrive next Wednesday. I received it yesterday, and it was shipped Monday. It's on my desk right now,and I sneak peeks at it every now and then. It's wonderful. Starts in the 1780s and ends in the 1999-2000 season. A real doorstopper. My poor mailman.
So-you never know. I'm sorry you had such trouble with Sony. BTW-which CD did you buy? Is it any good?

It was Barbra Streisand's Movie Album one. But Sony made it seem like you could only purchase the special edition cd (the one that comes with the DVD) through their website; and when I couldn't find the special edition in any store near me, I figured it was the only way to get it. Fortunately I found it in Time Square...but it's not the first time SONY's website has had some what appears to be misleading advertising. oh well, lesson learned.
