I saw Gypsy on the last preview night (April 30th). I was in New York with all the musical theatre majors of my school who were doing their New York Showcase for agents and casting directors. I went to Gypsy with a class mate and we secured ourselves splendid seats in the 2nd row. During one of the Hollywood Blondes strip numbers, the chorus gals took off their garters and threw them in the audience and one of them landed right on my friend's lap... I was sooooo insanely jealous.
Tammy Blanchard then walked out to do her strip and slowly removed her white satin glove and threw it RIGHT AT ME!!! I was beside myself! Tammy signed the glove at the stage door after the show.
Gypsy was such a powerful theatre experience. Bernadette was absolutely breathtaking. She had us all crying one minute and then with perfect timing cracked her one liner that made you laugh again. She was such a human Mama Rose, I was touched beyond anything I could have imagined...
