I was going to post this last weekend but thought I should wait so rehearsals wouldn't be disrupted. For those of you who read All That Chat or any other Broadway forum you've probably seen the discussions of many people asking if Bernadette will do matinees.I've been getting a lot of personal inquiries about this too. Because I am on AOL I can't sign up for ATC...and I really don't have the time now to do it on MSN... so for those wondering the question asked I'll just answer it here( to the best of my knowledge).
I ran into some friends at Gypsy rehearsals last Saturday and from everything I've been told and know they were having rehearsals as if they were really doing a show...atleast as far as time schedules go. Meaning the cast rehearsed 2-4:30 and then 8-10:30 on Saturday. Although it wasn't really considered a dress rehearsal because they hadn't begun rehearsing with the costumes yet( atleast they weren't on Saturday ). Bernadette was there so I am pretty positive she will be doing matinees as well. I didn't ask though. If she wasn't doing matinees I would assume it would have been announced when tickets went on sale or atleast now. Not announcing something like that and leading people to assume she would be doing matinees if infact she wasn't would only cause MAJOR headaches for the house manager and others involved with the production. If she decides that she needs to take matinees off further into the run remains to be seen, however I have a feeling she'll try to do as many shows per week as she possibly can. This is a dream role for her! But I'm sure like any other performer...getting back into performing 8 shows a week( especially while doing such a demanding role as Rose) can be very very exhausting, especially in the beginning.

PS-- Everyone that I've spoken with involved with the show says they're having the time of their life and that it is and will be very exciting!

Thanks so much for addressing this. I, like many others here, I'd guess, read those rumors on ATC, but was reluctant to bring them up (its so easy for rumors to spread and take on a life of their own).

As someone who can only see the show at a matinee (I live out--way out--of town), I wasn't looking forward to having to stay over some evening to see Bernadette (although I certainly would have, if need be).

So..curtain up..

Yes, Bernadette Peters will perform at matinee performances. A call to the press agent for the show confirmed that Ms. Peters is contracted for 8 performances per week, barring illness. Maureen Moore is Ms. Peters' standby. By the way, there are no Wednesday matinee performances this week or for the next two weeks.

I'm glad that Bernadette will be doing 8 shows a week, but I would not be completely dissapointed if Maureen Moore took over matinees in the future (either on a Wednesday or Saturday). I would love to see her in the role at least once; she is a great singer, and I have never actually seen her perform on stage.

I have seen Maureen as Freilein Schnedier in Cabaret and she is by far my favorite in that role and I've seen several actresses. I'm looking forward to the time when Maureen goes on as Rose. She has an amazing voice that sent chills down my spine. I've asked her to let me know if she can when she will go on. If I remember, I'll post it.

OOOO, please do post it if you find out. I would definitely go see her in the role!
Do you know Maureen? Because I was talking with some woman for a moment last night who knows her, and that would be so funny if it was you!

More often than not a standby doesn't know they're going on until that very same day...even just minutes beforehand. There are times when its publically announced, if enough time is given, that a standby will be going on
