Here is something I found on googlegroups.com about Bernadette and MTM. It's from 1994.
For those of you who may be interested in a little news about Bernadette Peters, she was here in Chicago earlier this week to accept this year's Sarah Siddons award for actress of the year; the award, presented by Mary
Tyler Moore, was for her appearance here in "The Goodbye Girl."
The Chicago Tribune reported some good-natured banter between the two actresses at the ceremony; apparently, they're longtime friends: "Moore began, 'When I heard Bernadette was getting this award, my first reaction was...Why?' Peters began her acceptance speech by looking at Moore and saying, 'I don't even know why we're friends.' Before guests took to the dance floor, emcee Norman Mark [a local entertainment [reporter/critic] led
Peters in the traditional Sarah Siddons Waltz, joined by Moore and an obviously thrilled Northwestern University student. Halfway through, Moore left her partner and cut in on Mark and Peters--then left the emcee standing there as she and Peters waltzed gracefully away across the dance floor. Moore led."
