I saw 42nd Street and thought that Bernadette would be perfect as Dorothy.

How about as the Mom in Mamma Mia.

Or as Madam Morbeley (sp?) in Wicked.

Assassins and A Raisin in the Sun both closed, so technically they're not even on Broadway right now.

Bernadette Peters as the replacement in a supporting role? Sacrilege!

Of course she could play anything, but she wouldn't, and she shouldn't.

I still think she play Glinda. She looks young enough. Chenoweth is 34 and Bernadette doesn't look a day over 40 so its not really that much of a stretch.

I'm not sure I could totally see Bernadette as Glinda. To me, even though she looks very young, she has this maturity about her and I don't think she'd really fit into a role where she was supposed to play a 18-20 year old. I don't think it has anything to do with her acting, and I'm sure she could pull it off, but I just like to see her in roles for her own age range rather than all the baby-cutesy stuff. Don't eat me alive for saying this!

What about the role that Beth Fowler plays in The Boy from Oz...Peter's mother?

Beth Fowler is great but too minor for Bernadette I think - plus "The Boy from Oz" is closing in September.

A very big Yes to both Karen and Megan. Good sense and sincerity tops cleaverness.

(Oh well, I actualy see Bernadette as..ULLA.. if for no other reason than I would pay lots of money to hear her sing, or even say, "When You Got It, Fl-au-nt It". So cleaver.)

I think Mrs. Lovett in Sweeny Todd, Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard and Mame in Mame. The more I picture it, I think I could still see her playing Glinda. Maybe if they made a movie or something. She's good at cute. And if you think about how old the origional Glinda was.....

I think Amanda Wingfield in a revival of THE GLASS MENAGERIE.

"Take off your jacket!"--Joan Rivers to Bernadette
"TAKE OFF YOUR DRESS!!"--Bernadette's reply.
