Of course he then predicts the show won't last until then anyway, and says he might be able to take some credit for "bringing it down".

And with extremely high occupancy and ticket sales during the "typical tourist" months of June, July and August, I would say it was certainly high on the tourist list of shows to see.
Okay, sorry, had to get that off my chest.
Doesn't Mikey Riedel have Donna Murphy and Rosie to pick on now. This thing with Bernadette is REALLY starting to get old.
Of course it was nice to hear that he is at least passing around the rumor that she has extended which makes it more of a possibility. I'm sure we will be hearing an official announcement very soon.

His mother must be sooo proud.
Enjoyed reading again the Clive Barnes' review from last May 2 [what is that Mr. Redel?Riddle?Whazyoname? About 300 performances ago of this loser of a musical, huh??]
"It was time for a change. Classic musicals can't just repeat themselves like indigestion. The only question about a new approach is how valid and entertaining it is.
Enter Peters. Petite and pretty, she's clearly no battle ax-diva in the Merman mode, and it was possibly risky and obviously controversial to cast her.
Yet Peters sings with enormous character and appeal, and acts with total conviction, though her powerhouse finale may be slightly low on wattage.
Her Rose may not have the indestructible guts of the others, but she has more heartbreak.
And while this Rose runs further afield from the real and monstrous stage mother of stripper Gypsy Rose Lee and actress June Havoc, upon which the story is based, she melds into the show better.
In a Broadway musical, irony can prove stronger than iron. ...
Most of the performances are exceptionally good. ...
Mendes' take on "Gypsy" isn't your usual gypsy camp, but it is, more important, a solid winner."
And to think, the show and her performance has only gotten better since May.

Heh heh.
From Peter Filichia's column on 10/24/03:
"Speaking of Michael: I ran into him the next night at five minutes to eight. 'Going to The Retreat from Moscow?' he asked, and after I said yes, I asked to which show he was going. 'Oh,' he replied, 'I'm having dinner with my parents tonight. They're in from out of town.' I suddenly thought of all that Michael has accomplished for himself, and said -- sincerely -- 'They must be very proud of you.' He took a moment before answering with a shy smile, 'Oh, I don't know if anyone could be proud of what I do.'"
