Oh no! One of my all-time favorites, the great Ann Miller, has died. I almost had a chance to see her live in a revival of Anything Goes that was supposed to go on to Broadway in the seventies. Unfortunately for me, but especially for her, the night before I was to see her, she was hit in the head by a piece of stage equipment, knocked unconscious, and hospitalized with serious injuries. An understudy went on for her in the remainder of the St Louis run(she happened to be the daughter of a local children's TV host, Corky the Clown), but after that the production folded and didn't go on to Broadway. Miller sued the theater for big bucks, and eventually settled. It became a legendary event in local theatre--somrthing people who were around then still remember and talk about. Anyway, she had a long and illustrious career, and I always had a special affection for her, dating back to when I first saw her in Easter Parade over forty years ago(I can still remember laughing at her line reading of "well that's an odd arrangement"). I could go on and on, but I won't. Last thought: remember in Bernadette's Little Miss Nobody number when she says her brother put on her old tap shoes and dress and went on to become famous under the name of Ann Miller. LOL!
