Yes,it does look very cool. I'm always optimistic about an upcoming Broadway season, but this one should be particularly good and busy, with lots to discuss.
:-) Not only Wicked, but The Boy From Oz...and Boy George's Broadway debut. Oh,I can't wait for the discussions on *that* one. I know it's coming in from London,so it's been around-anyone know of any reviews of Taboo? Good, bad, indifferent (I imagine it would be hard to be indifferent, but anyway)? I'm absolutely clueless about Taboo.

And the revivals aren't the same old either-Wonderful Town and The Wiz (not too excited about this one,but I'm willing to be surprised and delighted. I want all shows to succeed.) Except for Fiddler-which,wow,I love. But it lost quite a bit of money the last time it was revived-perhaps people are overfamiliar with the show? And Little Shop is fun (yes, yes,it's not technically a revival).

And isn't there a musical with Jackie Mason in there somewhere? Or is he doing another one man show, and somehow I think he's doing a musical? Someone please enlighten me. I know I wouldn't just think of that on my own.

Taboo should be interestng..they're going to have a pretty crazy schedule.

I know Jackie Mason has a show playing at the Helen Hayes in Nyack later this month. I forgot the name of it...something with "Laugh" or "Laughing" in it.....

And Bounce is still out there...with major revisions already in place for D.C. I still have high hopes....

I had the privilege of seeing Kristin in "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown" a few years ago. She was awesome! This shows sounds like a lot of fun and I hope I get to see it. All this and Joel Grey too! :-)

Kristin Chenoweth has one of the most beautiful voices on Broadway today, so I'm really looking forward to seeing her live. I actually just purchased her debut cd and I absolutely love it (there's a great duet with Jason Alexander).
Joel Grey is so great in everything he does, so I'm especially excited to being seeing him.

I think Wicked will do well on Broadway. It has great music and great talent; I'll just have to wait and see if I like the story

Taboo did well in London, but I heard there will be a lot of Production changes. I do want to see it, but American audiences have different taste from European audiences when it comes to theatre...so even if I or a few other people like it, doesn't really tell if it will last on Broadway.

Another show I'm looking forward to seeing is "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof" starring Ashley Judd. It is one of my favorite plays, and Ashley is a really great actress. It's a shame that so many people disregard plays all together because they would rather see a musical.

Christopher Plummer will be in King Lear-that should be wonderful.

If I get to the city-and it's still running-I'd love to see Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. That is such a powerful play. We have the Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival every year here in New Orleans (coming up in March)-a fantastic event-I grew up participating in it,since local kids in drama groups would help out-and we pretty much claim Tennessee as our own, even though he's not originally from here. :-) The Rose Tattoo's going to be performed-let's hear it for regional theater. :-) It's really an astounding festival-internationally well-known,and who doesn't want to come to New Orleans during the spring?

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is exceptional, and Ashley Judd should be phenomenal. Here's hoping. But King Lear with Christopher Plummer-ooh,that should be good.

Thank you,Christine, for championing the plays. I shouldn't forget them either.

Jean, glad you're back from your vacation, which sounded like it was going to be great. Speaking from St Louis, Tennessee Williams's hometown (which he totally despised), I thought I'd mention that I met him once, not here but in Chicago where I used to live. He came to the library where I worked to give a reading in about 1980 near the end of his life. He wore a bright blue jogging outfit, was accompanied by his brother Dakin, and was in an "exuberant" mood verging on manic. At first it seemed like it was going to be a disaster, but he actually read very well--his own poems and short stories and also poetry by Hart Crane. Afterwards I mumbled something to him, and he acted very appreciative. He died not too long afterwards, so I've always been glad I had the opportunity to see him "in action". Off on another tangent, I too agree with Christine and Mabel about the "Let Yourself Go" CD. It's one of my favorite recordings of the last few years. If any of you haven't listened to it yet, don't wait any longer! Well, those are my ramblings for the day. LOL.

Christopher Plummer in King Lear?!? Oh, man. My list of shows I gotta see just got longer.
Wicked. Ashley's Cat. Henry IV. Gypsy (again). Yikes...

I had the good fortune seeing Mr. Plummer and James Earl Jones in "Othello" many years ago in Miami. He should be amazing as Lear, and I'd loved to see him perform again.

Excuse me, please, I have to go buy a lottery ticket...

Jean-

Out Tennessee Williams festival is almost exactly (one day's difference) one month after Mardi Gras. I love New Orleans. Our TW festival has sessions for writers and scholars, and performances of TW's work, but there's also a Stella shouting contest (women have a Stanley shouting contest,to make it fair, but some women enter the Stella contest) and a birthday party for TW,complete with cake and the Happy Birthday song. It gets bigger and bigger, and is considered one of the best literary festivals in the United States.

And oops-I made a mistake in my previous post-those plays were performed *last* year at the festival. Ther new schedule isn't out yet,and I thought I was looking at the 2004 schedule. As you can see,I didn't go last year.

Jean-will you be able to see Bounce in D.C.?

I see Assassins hasn't been scheduled yet. Again.

Stephen Schwartz has a website-found it this morning:

http://www.stephenschwartz.com

There's a very nice "Ask Stephen" board (the moderator has taken over answering most questions since SS is working on Wicked)-I nearly fell off my chair when I read one of the posts. PBS is working on a 6 part documentary of the American musical-the sixth part will discuss the creation of Wicked.

:breathe: :breathe:

Yes-a SIX PART documentary. Be still,my heart.

Speaking of Stella shouting (lol sorry, there was no other way to transition into this post), how great would it be if they did a revival of "A Streetcar Named Desire" on Broadway, or even Off-Broadway. I love that movie. Also, "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolfe?"

There,Christine. It's all settled. Just hop on the train. And the Kennedy Center is lovely-I saw State Fair there in its pre-Broadway tour.

Jean-you wouldn't be adverse to posting a Bounce review once you see it,would you?
