Registered: 8/14/2003 | posted: 12/9/2004 at 7:02:30 AM ET You're not crazy. There was a thread about Betty Buckley (yesterday I think) but now it is gone. They sometimes do remove threads if the content gets out of hand. I didn't read it so I can't even tell you what it was about. I did see it though.

Registered: 5/3/2002 | posted: 12/9/2004 at 6:59:14 PM ET The reference is to the All That Chat message board on the Talkin' Broadway website. It had a thread yesterday about Betty Buckley that was deleted after just a few hours because it became too personal and too negative. They're pretty strict about what they allow to be posted there.

Registered: 5/3/2002 | posted: 12/15/2004 at 12:31:03 AM ET I read them both (actually skim through them), usually every day, but only post occasionally.
ATC is the high profile "board of record" with adult members, many of whom are theatre professionals. There are a lot of very knowledgable people, but you have to keep your eyes open to any hidden agendas that they may be pushing. The moderators do a good job keeping things on-topic and mainly decorous.
BWW is filled with high school and college students, although it has plenty of adult members as well. It's very jokey, cliquey, and social. People chat back and forth with a mixture of sexual innuendo, feuding, mocking put-downs, in jokes, and back patting. It's a certain type of atmosphere: some people thrive in it and some don't care for it.
Both have their plusses and minuses, but they're kind of essential for keeping abreast of what's what in the theatre world. If you only have time to read one, I would say that ATC is infinitely more significant in its content.

Registered: 6/7/2003 | posted: 12/15/2004 at 7:48:13 AM ET Here are two more--one I like and go to every week or so--it's adult and literate and well-moderated:
http://www.sondheim.com/community/
the other is simply awful, uninformative, childish bickering and nonsense postings--I read it occasionally just to remind myself how good we have it on this site (tosses a bouquet to Kevin and, yes, all of us):

Karen's descriptions of the other 2 are so true in my view.

From: northern VA | posted: 12/15/2004 at 9:05:49 AM ET Other good sites for Broadway/Broadway-related news (not message boards, though):
Broadway Stars-updated at least daily, sometimes several times a day as needed. Also includes a tremendous link collection.
TheaterMania-great columns(links at the end of the page-Peter Filichia is a great writer, truly loves the theatre, and on top of that,a very nice man).
There's also Playbill.
I second the Putting it Together site. I used to read the New York Times's theater board, but have fallen out of the habit.

You know, I find myself just scanning broadwaystars.com every so often and rarely going to playbill.com or broadway.com anymore, and I agree with you Jenn, great links.
