From: NYC | posted: 9/30/2004 at 12:38:38 AM ET So most of us are becoming either on-line friends and some are already friends and theater buddies in person. I thought it would be interesting to find out what folks do in their time away from being dedicated Bernadette fans or what they aspire to be when you.
I'm a bankruptcy paralegal at a law firm.

I have approximately 65 kids that I work with ranging in age from 3-12 with a variety of disorders. The hours, holidays, and summers off are GREAT especially for my frequent trips to NYC!

Registered: 6/7/2003 | posted: 9/30/2004 at 8:15:30 AM ET As should be perfectly obvious, I'm more than grown up and have entered my second childhood. Since I retired 10 years ago, I've traveled a bit, had a vegetable garden and learned more than I ever wanted to know about squash fungus and tomato borers, returned to New York on many occasions, and made a bunch of new acquaintances. I see a play-concert-dance etc performance at least weekly and indulge my passion for craft/ flower shows and museums.
My extremely routine day is spent, strangely enough, much like Bernadette's, although I suspect she has a lot more glamour and razzle-dazzle than she mentions and is infinitely better dressed than I. (That is, I read the paper, excercise, do chores, etc.)
I am actually about to put on my bathing suit and otherwise get my act together for the day. Ta Ta.

From: northern VA | posted: 9/30/2004 at 9:47:13 AM ET I'm a children's librarian in the Houston area. Yesterday was my preschool storytime and one of my stories required me to meow like a cat, bark like a big dog, squeak like a terrified mouse, and cock-a-doodle-doo like a rooster. Needless to say,I soon had a gaggle of preschoolers barking, meowing, and cock-a-doodle-dooing with me.
And in November I'm planning a tea/craft party for the schoolage kids to celebrate L.M. Montgomery's birthday. But no currant wine or sheetcake laced with anodyne liniment.

From: NYC | posted: 9/30/2004 at 12:48:19 PM ET Loved reading the old thread - thanks Jean! Some of names I recognized and some seem to have gone away - interesting how people come and go from the board.
Besides being a paralegal (for about 11 years now - yes I used to want to be an attorney, but ugh - I've worked w/ to long to actually be one of them), I spend a lot of time going to the theater and traveling. I'm fortunate to have friends all over the place (even more now since I've become friends w/ Vicki, Mandy, Noah & Brandon!) I get a lot of company too so I've become quite a NYC tour guide. I've been living in NYC since June 2002 and the time has flown by. I thought I'd never get here and now I never want to leave! I moved here from San Antonio, TX. My Mom and sister, niece and nephew live in West Texas (if you see the new movie "Friday Night Lights" its about high school football in Odessa, Texas which is 40 miles from my home town)(its not the end of the world but you can see it from there). I play French horn but only in amateur groups. I was in plays and musicals in high school and I love to "act", be dramatic or silly and tell stories - but only to my friends these days. I'm a history buff, love pop culture and useless facts. I love this fan board and it has been so much fun getting to know some of you in person.

Registered: 5/3/2004 | posted: 9/30/2004 at 5:29:42 PM ET Currently, I am a highschool senior in NJ, and spend my weekends in the city, although lately I've been studiously re-writing my college essay as well as doing some applications and searching for the right college.
My top choice, since the beginning and now more than ever, is NYU. I plan to go there and study Educational Theatre and eventually take their Master's classes and become an English and Drama teacher. Well, let's hope! (cross your fingers for me!)

From: Atlanta | posted: 9/30/2004 at 10:51:17 PM ET Let's hear it for the class of '05! Woot woot. I too am a high school senior, way down south in Georgia (by way of New Jersey, however). And, I also hope to travel to NY for college. I really want to go to Columbia, but I have to actually finish my essay first. It is really hard to convey your personality, make a total stranger like you, and get them to accept you to their school in a one-page paper. Ahh! Occupationally speaking, I am now a cashier at Moe's (for you Yankees, that's a popular Mexican restaurant chain), but hope to someday pursue a career in music and/or theater. Even if I am not a performer, I would still like to be within the community. But I have to get out of Atlanta! Only one year left...

Registered: 5/3/2004 | posted: 10/1/2004 at 6:57:07 AM ET Oh yeah, I'm also a somewhat Coldstone employee- but not so much lately cause of school. 3va, i'm actually looking into Barnard too... but they have weird majors, so if i was to go there it'd be Liberal Arts. The thing is I want something more specific like Public Relations or preferably, Educational Theatre.
I know what you mean about the college essay! it's so frustrating. I'm lucky though, cuz i wrote an essay junior year in my english class that was really well accepted and my teacher told me to use that one and to just fix some things... which i've been doing... so hopefully it'll all be good! good luck!

From: Rhode Island | posted: 10/1/2004 at 2:32:32 PM ET I'm a college student at the University of Rhode Island... started out in environmental science, but I'm leaning toward business/economics/marketing or something of the sort as a major now. I'm looking to possibly transfer to NYU for my jr. year next fall since I definitely want to end up working in NYC, but who knows!

| posted: 10/1/2004 at 4:17:08 PM ET OK Sister Rose, I'm scared to admit this after what you said about not wanting to be a lawyer, but guess what? I'm a law student. I go to Roger Williams in Rhode Island and hope to be a divorce attorney in NYC when I graduate in three years. I have my Master's in English Literature and love to read and watch movies, especailly musicals. I have done theater and dance in the past and would love to be an actress, especially a Broadway actress. However, I cannot sing AT ALL, so there goes that dream! HA! Oh well. Hopefully divorce law will satisfy me. :-)

From: NYC | posted: 10/1/2004 at 5:09:44 PM ET ANH - You'll make a million bucks as a divorce lawyer in Manhattan! LOL! I haven't worked with any divorce lawyers so I can't speak badly about them. Advice: Treat paralegals like they are gods - they will be doing all of your work while you take the credit and make $100,000 more than they do. Really though, I'm not miserable in my job. Really.
