This week, here in the UK, Larry (formely known as Tyson), a 14 year old American Pit Bull Terrier, was released after four years on death row. His only crime? His owner had taken him for a walk without putting a muzzle on the dog's face.

In the British Isles, breeding, buying & selling and exchange of American Pit Bulls is banned under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991. But there are still plenty of pit bulls around, and so they are obliged, by law, to wear a muzzle every time they are taken out of the house.

Larry had no history of violence prior to his "arrest" but was condemned to death just because of his owner's stupidity. Thankfully, a woman who had kept Staffies and Pit Bulls in the past, read about the dog's plight and started a legal campaign to have the dog spared and released. This week, four years later, after many court cases, fourteen year old, arthritic Larry was released into her care and she has taken him to live with her in a little seaside town on the English coast.

Interesting to note that the people who kept Larry locked up on death row for four years ( that's 28 dog years)decided to change his name from Tyson to Larry because he was "as gentle as Larry the lamb" Poor little chap. But at least he'll spend the rest of his days with a loving owner who says that her whole town is looking forward to welcoming Larry into their community.

Punish the deed -- not the breed.

Oh my goodness! Thats really SAD.... Scottie. I think there are a lot of animal problems that they didn't even do. So sad... We just have to make a better world for the rest of everyone else. (if that made any sense)
