For those of you who haven't checked Playbill.com...
They are releasing a Stephen Sondheim DVD box set in September. It will have Sunday in the Park with George, Into the Woods, Passion, Follies in Concert, Sweeney Todd in Concert, and 1992 Carnegie Hall Celebration. It lists for 119.99 so start saving your pennies! I wish they would make a DVD of the Angela Lansbury Sweeney Todd. I have the video (it is starting to show it's age) and I would love to replace it with the DVD. What a performance!

Are they seriously?? OHHHHH GGRRRR... there's some stuff in there I'd want that I don't have yet, but I already own Into the Woods and Sunday in the Park With George. Which makes buying the collection out of the question. Argh. You know what this is like? This is like when I bought the Monty Python and the Holy Grail DVD and a month later, they came out with the special edition. Very frustrating.

The collection is $89.99 on Amazon.com, with some kind of shipping deal. Yummy-I'm sorely tempted, even though I don't have a DVD player (YET).

I agree that it would be terrific had they included the Lansbury/Hearn "Sweeney Todd." Also, the Lincoln Center "A Little Night Music" that was taped for PBS about 10 years ago. (Incidentally, Maureen Moore played Charlotte in that production.)

OMG, I'm so glad I read this. I swear on my life I was going to go buy the Into the Woods DVD in about a half an hour. As much as I still want to, I'm definitely going to wait so I can get the whole Sondheim package.
It's times like these that I'm glad I didn't get the ITTW or SITPWG DVD's.

Did they ever release that version of A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC on vhs? I can remember vaguely seeing it on PBS many, many, many years ago. I would love to see that production again. Let me know!

Unfortunately, they never did release a video of "Night Music." It did air on PBS. I taped it, but in a move several years ago, the tape vanished. I've always thought it would be a great addition to Broadway Theatre Archive.

I wish they put the Lansbury Sweeney in the collection, too. Apparently it was only ever available on LaserDisc and whenever it shows up on eBay it typically fetches several hundred $$s.

I actually purchased a video of the performance several years ago. It features Lansbury and George Hearn. It is outstanding.
