| posted: 5/1/2003 at 11:00:54 AM ET I was talking to a publicist for the show and he told me before that "it looked bleak" for getting opening night tickets just this past weekend. I have plans I can't cancel for tonight now... Do ticket statuses change that quickly? I doubt it. I really hate it when people just blow me off... I do all this work and then can't even get decent information.
That's despite the fact that I think I should've been invited to Opening Night...

From the very beginning its been common knowledge that opening night was INVITE ONLY. I'm sure they were probably just holding the tickets up until the very last minute to see if FAMILY or FRIENDS of the cast and crew wanted to go. I know for a fact that they did not know for sure if they would have those extra tickets until YESTERDAY, so they probably did not know when you spoke to them either. No offense but what relationship/status do you have with Boneau/Bryan-Brown to assume you could just call them and get tickets. I am sorry, I guess I feel people should just be happy they're available to the public at all.

Registered: 4/1/2003 | posted: 5/1/2003 at 4:20:59 PM ET It's no joke. I just received an e-mail from the GYPSY official site, informing me that opening night tickets are indeed still available. A very limited number of seats remain for tonight, at least as of a few minutes ago! Opening night seats are NOT always INVITATION ONLY. A great number of tickets are used by the producers and the company, and people are invited, but MANY shows have had opening night seats available online for purchase recently.

The deceptive practices used to sell tickets may be catching up with theater producers. Instead of selling the best seats first, they offer "Gold Card Seating", etc. Having ANY seats available at this late date, may speak volumes about the management of this production. Bernadette deserves better, and her fans do also! Your thoughts?

| posted: 5/1/2003 at 4:41:52 PM ET Umm. I don't think it reflects badly on the management. The tickets to opening night are often held until the very last minute. Like someone said, they had to fulfill all the requests of family, friends, agents, producers, etc. Once everyone had seats they put the remaining available seats up for sale to the general public. A lot of shows just paper the house with comps instead of offering the show to fans.

Registered: 4/14/2003 | posted: 5/1/2003 at 4:46:28 PM ET I know that Kevin spends a lot of time on this website, and I certainly feel that's worth some consideration. If they're to the point of selling them to the public it's not like they had to turn performer's personal invites away at the door... Giving a ticket or two to a dedicated fan site admin would be in good taste.

From Internet Network: 64.12.96.x | posted: 5/1/2003 at 4:55:00 PM ET When they start sending out emails on OPENING NIGHT, offering tickets for that performance, it seems like poor management to me. Let's hope the "writing isn't on the wall" for this production. I'd love to see Gypsy on Broadway for many years to come, and bring lots of friends with me.
