I think Filicia has a serious crush on Bernadette--The article read like a love letter to her! Well, where better than a fan site to share...

Great article! He hits the nail on the head with his comments on her acting in AGYG. I've always felt dumbfounded at the people who knocked it. Granted, they're a small minority, but they've been so vocal and repetitive that they've almost succeeded in making their take on it the going conventional wisdom. It's almost gotten that people who loved the show can't admit it anymore for fear of seeming unsophisticated. As far as Reba MacEntire, I didn't see her so I really can't be fair, but what the heck I'll be unfair and say I just don't think she's a fraction of the performer that Bernadette Peters is. She may have been surprisingly good, but "as good" much less "infinitely better", I just don't think so.

Karen,
I completely agree with you Bravo! Hats off to ya!! Hehe

Annonymous,
I'm confused. What do you mean the article read like a love letter??? Am I missing something? Hmmmmm, I don't think it read like that, but maybe I'm lost....lol! Who knows, maybe the writer is in love with her....how could anyone not be? lol!

It was kind of a joke-don't take it seriously!

It is nice, though, to see a critic or theatre commentator give a performer such unabashed admiration.

I saw both Bernadette and Reba in the role and I much prefer BP. I do think that as time went on Bernadette did tend to get a little silly at times in the role that probably compromised the character a bit but nothing to the extent that people say. If she had a stronger director, she should have been told to maybe cut it out a bit but hey, she was still damn funny. Reba on the other hand I did not like. I saw her a couple of times and she did improve but she is not a very experienced actress and I think is limited to playing roles that are essentially Reba. She made very little connection with the other actors on stage and I felt like I was watching a high school production instead of a professional Broadway production. So there is an opinion of both for you. Bernadette was maybe not perfect but was leagues ahead of Reba.
