| posted: 5/11/2007 at 6:10:32 PM ET Speaking as a huge Tony Bennett fan from way back, I have to say that it pleases me to no end to see Bernadette pop his name out without hesitation.
But then this is apparently an interview conducted in the alternate universe where Bernadette won the Best Actress Tony for Gypsy...
Seeing our girl tomorrow night in Raleigh. 26 hours away and counting...

Registered: 6/26/2003 | posted: 5/12/2007 at 1:08:09 AM ET Lots of Aurora press, but I haven't seen anything for Raleigh. In this 1995 Casino Player cover story--she was going to be appearing at Bally's in Las Vegas--, she talked about having learned to ski "a couple of years ago, and I thought that was an amazing analogy for life. Your natural instinct is to lean toward the mountain so that you don't fall, but acutally that's when you do fall. When you lean out and take a risk--lean out into nothing-- you're really as safe as you can be. If we go around in life being careful, nothing happens in our lives. If we're free to take risk and trust--trust is a very important word--then we start living life. The article also included her take on being famous. "There's a good side and bad side to everything," she reveals, adding that it's a wonderful thing to be able to express yourself on stage, and that fame is just part of the package. "Sometimes fame is great and sometimes you don't have the anonymity that's fun to have. I'm pretty good with it--it's harder for the people around me than it is for me. I'm just so used to people looking at me. The hard part is, you can't stare at people because they notice you doing it--then they recognize you. You can't take a good look at people anymore."

Such a great quote and it made me laugh because "people watching" is definitely one of life's simplest pleasures and one that we can all usually take for granted.
The thing that struck me though is that Bernadette could certainly walk any London Street(and possibly other European streets) without being recognised too much - if at all. I would wager a bet that the average Briton (the non theatre-aware person in particular)has probably never even heard of her - despite her numerous film appearances. And yet if another London BP concert was announced on Monday it would probably be sold out by Tuesday.
This is unbelievable but all the tickets for the Barbra Streisand concert in July in London were sold out within a mere twenty minutes despite the tickets prices ranging from £500 to £1,725. Just double the GBP to get an idea of the USD value - so that means the cheapest seats were $1000 and the more expensive seats were almost $3,500 !!! I could never afford those prices but am very excited as a very special friend will be taking me to see her as a belated birthday present. A real dream come true ... now all I need is a BP concert or West End Show to complete my joy.
as Bernadette says....just keep moving on.....

Don't get me wrong, I'd give my left arm and possibly first-born for Bernadette, but her concert format neeeeeeeds some re-vamping. It works for first-time audiences, but sometimes the predictability can be a bit much for us die-hards that have seen her 10+ times in concert. Now granted, she will (or maybe I should say Richard Jay will) add a new song here and there, or a new joke, but if I hear "This is my back", "I went out today and my hair frizzed all up", or "This next song is from a show I was in called Into the Woods... but I didn't sing this song in the show" I'm going to scream!

Although I have seen the show before I find that she makes each show a new and unique experience and one that I enjoy just as much each time as the first time I saw her in concert.
And I would love to hear a CD.

From: Edinburgh, Scotland | posted: 12/22/2007 at 6:07:51 AM ET For the past ten years I've been running a board, similar to this one, dedicated to another singer, and we have this sort of debate all the time. Our lady is exactly the same. She performs a two hour concert and we sit there in the front rows mouthing her chit-chat between songs, we've heard it all so often. We even make bets before the shows on what she will wear (we're usually right).
I think the familiar "patter" thing is a sort of security blanket that performers have, it makes them feel at home on that big stage - no matter which strange town they may be in. They also work on the theory that the vast majority of their audience are first-timers and so the tried and true humour always go down well.
