Has Bernadette ever recorded or sang any disco/uptempo type music? A friend of mine told me she did, but I don't think she would do that.

It's kind of hard to say because I'm not exactly sure what kind of music you mean. She never did disco strictly speaking, but she did record a few uptempo contemporary pop songs on her first two albums in the early eighties. Even those albums though contained predominantly older songs and ballads.

Aren't Bernadette and Steve dancing sort of disco in a later scene in "The Jerk"--the party scene, just before he loses his money.

I don't know what uptempo is-would that be anything other than a ballad? If so, probably each of her albums has one uptempo song, and I'm sure that if I thought about it, some of the songs she's done on Johnny Carson might qualify.

Maybe something like "There is Nothing Like A Dame", or some of her versions of "Broadway Baby', and I find her concert version of "We're In The Money/Pennies From Heaven" very UP. "The Gentleman Is a Dope" is kind of "swingy"-does that count? I'll add "I Make Him Feel Good", oh, just because!

LOL! Yeah, they're absolutely disco dancing in The Jerk. In fact, I think it's the funniest parody ever of disco dancing other than the one in Airplane! But, I think Anon meant did Bernadette ever record any disco songs herself, and the answer is no.

I was just assuming that Anon meant more or less contemporary, non-Broadway material that might be considered lightweight current pop. In other words, catchy but superficial and kinda dumb. And, no, Bernadette hasn't really sung those kind of songs in years. She recorded a few, years ago, when she probably didn't have as much choice over her repertoire.

In her 1979 concert that was filmed in Canada, she comes out doing an uptempo version of "Thank You For Being A Friend."
There might have been some other similar songs in that concert. I haven't watched it in quite some time.

Thank you for answering my question everyone. Uptempo music is like music you can dance to, like disco or something. Sorry if I confused anyone.

About the closest I can think of might be "Heartquake" from her first album in 1980. It was written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil and sort of has a dance beat.

Hi, i'm new here. So Heartquake is a dance song, not a ballad or show tune like most of her other songs?

Well, it has a synthesizer and a tambourine and lyrics like "my soul cried girl, better get out of here" & "oh it's a love disaster" & "you whispered baby, come on let's do it" [with background singers echoing "do it! do it!"].

I'd say it was a semi-typical, would-be (but never was) dance hit, circa 1980.

Rolling Stone magazine described her performance of "Heartquake" as sounding "slightly trashy and out of her depth" (for some strange reason I find that comment amusing).
