Here's a nice article from the Northwest Florida Daily News. If the ticketing site is working correctly, it looks like there are a lot of seats available for the 9/22 concert.

Florida Freedom Newspapers, Inc. Sep 17, 2006

P. Diddy wants pricey champagne, and J-Lo an all-white dressing room. Performers sometimes make odd or extravagant requests of the venues that host them. But Bernadette Peters, who will perform here Sept. 23, is a different kind of celebrity.

robbynb@nwfdailynews.com
FORT WALTON BEACH Celebrities are used to being catered to in every way.

Before she agrees to appear at an event, Beyonce Knowles makes sure chicken thats heavily seasoned with garlic and cayenne is part of the deal. Cher wants only black Solo cups to drink from. And Jennifer Lopez demands her dressing room be painted white with white linens, white candles and white flowers.

But Bernadette Peters demands are different.

In fact, there really arent any demands. Only a few requests to make her and her crew feel safe and comfortable while they are in the area for her upcoming performance with Sinfonia on Sept. 23.

She is one of the most gracious people, said Sinfonia conductor Demetrius Fuller. Shes not a diva. We dont have to pick the green M&Ms out of her jar.

Most of the requests Peters and her management have made are performance based. They wanted specific lighting and equipment that would make her performance a professional one.

Shes used to being on Broadway and this is a full Broadway lighting design coming in here, Fuller said.

While Snoop Dog needs vanilla ice cream and a PlayStation in his dressing room and P. Diddy wants Cristal and Don Perignon, Peters most unusual desire was for a bottle of vintage California Chardonnay.

The other items, such as herbal teas, honey, lemon, and a humidifier, are simply to aid her in preparing for the concert, Fuller said.

It takes a lot of time, details wise, Fuller said. But the whole process was very easy. She really doesnt have any demands.

Fuller said he even offered extra things for Peters and her crew. However, theyre intent on simply coming in and doing a good job.

Even so, an interior decorator has been hired to make dressing rooms for Peters and the others feel warm and cozy.

Thats an area where we are taking an extra step to make her feel at home, said Kay Phelan, publicist for Fuller.

One of the other big concerns for those preparing for Peters visit was lodging and transportation.

Weve gone to extraordinary measures to make sure she has a nice place to stay, Phelan said.

Peters will be staying beachfront with access to room service. Shell also be riding in style with 24/7 limo service.

Phelan echoed Fuller by saying Peters requests were very simple.

The only things her people have asked for are the sort of things any of us would want, Phelan said.

Fuller isnt a stranger to performing away from home either. He travels to other countries as a guest conductor. And like Peters, he doesnt have many special requests.

He asks that his airfare and accommodations are provided. And if his flight is longer than six hours, he wants to be upgraded to business class. Fuller also asks for a car service to meet him at the airport and an interpreter when necessary.

Hes going to China this summer and will definitely need extra help there, Phelan said. Performers like to be comfortable and at ease so they can do their best to entertain.

What a nice article...though it doesn't surprise me that she does not have a laundry list of demands as other do. Thanks for posting!

So is the Chardonnay for before or after the show?

Sorry I just love these new emotions.

Ahh, I'd hoped to have a new job in North Florida by now, and to see BP in Panama City AND Destin this weekend; but, alas, it was not to be.

At the moment, I'm content with this lovely, very Bernadette article. Thanks for sharing.

Oh, my, she's going to be in Bethesda, Md., next month. That will do nicely. Now I don't feel deprived.

Here's a write-up of the performance:

Sinfonia debut raises the baton
Northwest Florida Daily News. Fort Walton Beach, Fla.: Sep 29, 2006

Symphony redefined, indeed!

Sinfonia Gulf Coast, the newest symphony on the beach, packed em into two venues last weekend.

They sold out 1,200 seats at the Marina Civic Center in Panama City for Friday nights performance and virtually did the same for 1,400 seats at the Emerald Coast Conference Center on Saturday.

It was a stunning premiere, propelled by the powerful pipes of guest star Bernadette Peters and the baton of founding Sinfonia music director-conductor Demetrius Fuller.

Ms. Peters couldnt have been more charming. She acknowledged the entire crowd, including those sitting in the cheap seats, which at $40 a pop werent so cheap.

She joked about the humidity and her trademark corkscrew curls and about how she didnt actually perform this or that selection in the show it was from.

She sang for a solid hour as the programs second half. Song after song took the audience on a joyous journey through Broadway.

Peters paced her performance with an expert mix of upbeat numbers and ballads. All were thoroughly entertaining, but my particular favorites were No One is Alone, Shenandoah and Children will Listen.

Peters won a Tony for the show Song and Dance, which included her performance of Unexpected Song. That one brought her and me to tears, especially knowing that it was almost the anniversary of her husbands death in a Sept. 26, 2005, helicopter crash.

She graciously received the crowds standing ovation with an encore of Irving Berlins Counting My Blessings.

She certainly was one for Sinfonia. They all might want to get T-shirts like those sported by a pair of young ladies sitting two rows in front of me: I (heart) BP, they said.

The orchestra accompanied Peters and her pianist and drummer after opening the show with a first half that served as a prelude to the Broadway theme.

They started with the lively Overture to Candide by Leonard Bernstein.

Suite from Threepenny Opera followed. It was a little disjointed for my taste, but you had to smile when you heard the familiar Mack the Knife motif.

The true triumph emerged with Sinfonias rendering of George Gershwins An American in Paris. I could have listened to that all night if it werent for knowing Peters was still to come.

Two huge video screens provided a front-row view well into the house. It was a nice touch. My only suggestion would be to pan over to soloists when possible so we can see them, too.

All in all, Sinfonia raised the baton with its debut, for other groups as well as for the rest of its own season. I would call it symphony reimagined.

Here's a little excerpt from a Q&A with conductor Demetrius Fuller that appeared in the Panama New Herald.

Q:I was at your opener. What did you and talk about with Bernadette Peters?A: Bernadette was really a pleasure to be around. She was so gracious and considerate. We talked a lot about the music that I have programmed for the season. We talked about the different concerts that we were both doing in the near future and we talked about her charitable work with Broadway Barks -- benefiting New York City animal shelters
