Hehe. I get all these "so when do they go onsale?". I don't know! "well, please email me when they do!" email exchanges... despite the fact I list the info on the FAQ.

They've been available with an Amex Gold/Platinum card since Thursday, December 5th, by calling Telecharge or booking on line at their website.

General ticket sales begin Sunday, January 19th.

I was able to purchase two in the Center Orchestra, Row "G" (as in "Gypsy"!!)for Friday evening, June 27th! Will be celebrating my 48th birthday that week seeing "Nine", "Hairspray", and "Gypsy"!

Good luck with your ticket purchases, and Merry Christmas from Craig in San Francisco!

Craig pointed out that Playbill posted a blurb about "unbiased ticket sales" (ie. no AMEX only junk).

Link: Playbill article.

The gist is tickets go onsale January 19th, and you can get them online at www.telecharge.com or (212) 239-6200.

Is anyone else out there really nervous about getting tickets? I've never bought tickets on the date they began selling them so I have a question or two...Is it impossibly hard to get front orchestra tickets on a specific date that you want? and...What is better to go to a matinee or an 8pm show?

Its not impossible but your chances of getting better seats later in the run are higher. Normally, weekends sell the best. I don't know how long the show will be around since it hasn't even opened yet but usually January and February are slow months so you could always try getting tickets for then. I imagine this show will definitely be a "hot" ticket tho.

A lot of the time it's better to go to the theater and get the tickets yourself (not over the phone or computer). That way you can look at a venue and talk to someone in person.
Unfourtunately for this show, Chicago is still playing at the Shubert. So they wouldn't even be able to sell Gypsy tickets from there yet.
Howevere, if you're planning on seeing the show later in the Spring or summer I suggest you go to the box office directly, after Chicago moves.

Disappointed, full page ad in Sun. paper for tickets. Took the bus and subway, only to find box office closed until 2/24/03. Who wants to pay extra charges on 6 tickets? Not I.
