She's quoted as saying "I'm talking to producers about a couple of musicals for next year, but I haven't made a decision yet."
Doesn't necessarily mean anything beyond keeping a name in the public eye, but worth noting.

So it probably won't be a play, Jean. Oh, well.
But still-how exciting!
Of course-she could also decide to not chose any of the offerings. Oh, to know what they are!

Yeah. Those items in "Parade" are always tied to a new CD, movie, whatever. I'm fairly convinced the questions are made up. Gee, how did someone in Podunk know just the right question to ask at just the right time?? It's a publicist's page.
Wasn't it said elsewhere fairly recently that she was talking about new shows on Broadway?
Still, liked the "Annie" pix.

Like the Parade item though, I think that's just something considered de rigueur to be said in these situations. It wouldn't sound right to say anything else.

From: NYC | posted: 8/21/2005 at 9:49:51 PM ET Since I didn't get my wish for BP to play Mrs. Lovett this season and aside from wanting to see BP in a brand new production (Sondheim!), I would love to see her in "Mame" - it has been over 20 since "Mame" was on Broadway and I think she's the one to do it. Christine Baranski is "Mame" in a Kennedy Center production in 2006 but I'd she'd be great as Vera Charles next to Bernadette as "Mame" in the Broadway production - can't you just hear them singing "Bosom Buddies"?
(Just lil ole me on an Angie kick... wishing that my friend Chip was already a big time producer!)

Bernadette would be so funny and amazing as Mame. I would DIE at the Man in the moon scene. I love christine baranski but I always thought Stockard Channing would make a great comic foible to Bernadette's mame. What do you think?

I too have wanted to see BP do Mame.
Baranski would be a near-perfect Vera, based on her "Cybill" sidekick days. Wouldn't mind Channing either.
But Bernadette...I'm often imagining her in "Mame" scenes, and it makes me laugh just thinking about it.

From: NYC | posted: 8/22/2005 at 10:40:23 AM ET I think that Mame is not a role for a singer but for an actor who sings - and we know that Bernadette is definitely that. Channing might be interesting, but my money is on Baranski.
Anybody want to produce it with me?

| posted: 8/22/2005 at 11:06:21 AM ET Bernadette is an actor who sings?! I guess I've always consider her and actor AND singer, both in equal measures. When someone says "actor who sings" I always think of actors who can carry a tune but isn't the best or strongest singer (example: Catherine Zeta Jones). Bernadette is one helluva an actor and equally a glorious singer!

Registered: 5/3/2002 | posted: 8/22/2005 at 1:34:25 PM ET Did everyone read Jesse McKinley's article about revivals in yesterday's Times? They haven't been recouping the last few years, and a lot of observers think the cycle has played itself out.
It's hard for me to imagine a Jerry Herman revival making back its investment on today's Broadway. In fantasy, there is something delicious about the thought of Bernadette taking on Mame, but in reality, I don't think she'd want to get mixed up in that type of project (wisely so).
I think she did Gypsy because it had great personal meaning for her--it wasn't just a job. Mame, I don't think so.

| posted: 8/22/2005 at 1:37:57 PM ET That article was very bizarre and presented the topic from an uneven vantage point. Very few Broadway shows have really made a profit(% wise), since they started producing Broadway shows. Its nothing new. There are lots of new shows that didn't make it either in recent years or years past. It seems the Times didn't have a better topic for an article and decided to make a mountain out of a mole hill. Revivals will always be produced as will new shows. Some will make it, some wont'.

| posted: 8/22/2005 at 2:28:48 PM ET I liked the article alot and think that the author made some valid points. Revivals haven't been doing well (recouping) in the past five or so years in my opinion due to the changing tastes of Broadway audiences. I know that from personal experience (taking family members to shows), they prefer 'light hearted' entertainment as opposed to shows like "gypsy" or "la cage aux folles". In other cases of revivals, the general broadway audience is older and might have seen the original productions.
I remember making causual conversation with this woman (early 60's) on the train one day who expressed that she had seen the original Gypsy and nothing could compare to it. Now mind you, this woman seemed very well off and able to see a show if she wanted to. I think that additude along with the current trend in Broadway audiences lead to reivivals not recouping.
