Just want to remind everyone that I'm leaving for Orilla ,Ontario for Bernadette's concert at the Casino Rama on Wed. night! Looks like I'll be the only Fanadette from this web-site there. As I'll represent you all, I'll try to be on my best behavior! I will take pictures, but I don't have a digital camera so I guess I can't share them with you(?)
MY friend broke her nose Saturday and is really looking like a racoon and is VERY uncomfortable, but is making an valient effort to go with me. Her packing come s out today ,and we'll see how it goes. I may be going alone, even though I put fill-in people on "alert"- but everyone has plans and it is such short notice. If she can,t go, I'll post this evening, and someone from this site could meet me there Tues. or Wed. I'm staying at the Day's Inn across from the Casino..ask for Pat Randle. Tickets and hotel bill already paid for so this would be my treat !! Orillia is about an hour from Toronto, and a Canadian bus lin goes right into Orillia. Yikes!!!

You will keep on giving me joy forever...

From: Toronto | posted: 6/30/2005 at 9:25:57 AM ET So I went to the concert last night! Bernadette, as always, looked amazing and sang great! She did her usual set and jokes and tried to show her knowledge of the native Canadian culture that runs CasinoRama......but got herself a little confused, I think! However, the audience loved it anyway! I have never been to of her concerts before so I'm not sure how this one compared....But I had a great time!
HOWEVER, I was a little disappointed at my fellow Canadians last night. People were going in and out of the show throughout the whole thing.....and THEN, when she announced that she would be singing the last song, people started to get up and LEAVE!!!!!! And the song was BEING ALIVE!! I couldn't believe it! When the song was over people started leaving again, and when she came back on to do a song from Gypsy she had to actually tell everyone to sit down! Once THAT song was over more people started leaving and I believe she told everyone to sit again because she was going to sing another one!! Don't people know you don't leave a concert until the house lights come back on??????
Anyway, I doubt that would have happened at one of our nicer theatres in Toronto! Bernadette did not really deserve that kind of an audience I think! I hope she realizes that we are all not like that!! PATTY, what did you think???
Well, at the end of the concert I tried to get to a stage door but I was stopped by a young security guard who told me I couldn't walk by there because it was prohibited right now because Donna Summers was in the building!! WHATEVER! So, alas, Bernadette never came out because she was staying in the Casino hotel.
Anyway, that's my rant! It was a good concert but I couldn't believe the people! I hope if she comes back she goes to Toronto!
You either got it, or you aint!

| posted: 6/30/2005 at 9:38:11 AM ET First of all, thank you for reporting. Second of all, I can't believe how rude poeple are. I am astonished that people who paid for a concert of Bernadette Peter's would leave. I understand that in Casinos, many tickets are comped and that might be one reason....but still! I really am speechless right now. All I can think of is that as famous as Bernadette is, she's just not at that 'superstar' status which would garner poeple that might not be interested in Broadway to be in awe of her. I do hope that poeple reading this don't take it the wrong way. I guess I'm relating that to her concert because even though I have an avid interest in her and her work, most poeple I speak to who aren't interested in Broadway and musical theater don't know who she is and if they do, limited knowledge.

From: NYC | posted: 6/30/2005 at 11:04:31 AM ET There's no use being upset - that's just casino culture. I'm sure Bernadette wasn't surprised.

From: tonawanda,n.y. | posted: 7/2/2005 at 7:39:20 PM ET I concurwith most of what Chaquita said! We arrived early and watching the people come in, I wasn't sure they would be a Bernadete concert crowd.( I'm a snob, you understand!) There were no programs handed out, and the usher said that was up to the performer! When the concert began, Bernadette got a wonderful reception, and was surprised that many people seemed familiar with her work, as they applauded when she announced a composer or a show, A couple left after her fourth song!!..wonder what they expected??! People did start to leave after before the encores, but I wonder if they werefamiliar with this procedure? Many sat down so there was a good crowd athe end. I asked the usher how. to get to the stage door , and of course he thought I wanted to go backstage, and when I explained, he said they didn't think she was signing autographs or they would have been alerted by security. There were10 passes given out to go backstage and they were gone. I gave up...But I had a few words with Bernadette that morning at breakfast! Lucky me..and unexpected good timing.
Bernadette's gown was a beautiful, all glittery thing, and she was so gracious and in great voice, A nice touch: there were two big screens on either side of the theatre where you could see her really close-up. We were in the 16th row so that was great, too. Afterwards, we sat in the
f
Fireside Lounge next to the lobby, where we were told the performers hsve to come to catch the elevators to their rooms. Marv,Chubby(Drummer and former Mouseketeer) and some orchestra members from Toront came through and were applauded by the patrons. But by 11 o'clock, no Bernadette so we had to catch the shuttle to our hotel. One older glambling ladey asked what were doing there and when we said a concert she said"OH, those noisy rockers! I can't stand them!" When I said Bernadette Peters , she of course said "Who? Does she sing country western?" Me. thinking said:"No, she sings Irving Berlin and Rodgers and Hammerstein." She:"Oh". I hope she was sorry she missed the concert! Bad Patty!!
The Casino Rama is quite beautiful and VERY large.I can be seen from a distance rising up from the cornfields like a mirage! I thought I was in Brigadoon!! All in all. it was a lovely experience
..saw baby goats,,does, clavesand very large bison at the farms on the way up! Trees outside are lit up with blue lights at night..a world within a world. This was Bernadette's first experience with a casino concert and I hope she'll come so the casinos in Niagara Falls,N.Y. and in Canada. They are attracting big names there and since people come from all over the world, there may be a crowd more aware of theatre and concerts. any way , we are so fortunate to know how wonderful a person and performer we have in Bernadette, even if a lot of people don't know her. It makes me sad for them. However, as an English teacher of mine once said:"There are many people leading very happy lives who have neither read, nor heard of Shakespeare!" Horrors, we thought! But,I have relaxed since then, and know I am blessed for having known such a wonderful lady of song, who'll keep on giving me joy, forever!
