I've scanned the picture that goes with the article, I'll email it to anyone who'd like it. I can't send it to the board, hotmail won't let me send it as it's too large.

Registered: 5/3/2002 | posted: 7/2/2004 at 8:33:27 PM ET More seems to be a fashion and beauty magazine for women over fifty. Apparently they have a regular column where different celebrities list the products that they use in six categories: skincare, makeup, hair, fitness, perfume, and clothing designers. Here are Bernadette's answers from the April 2002 issue.
Skin: Coppertone WaterBabies Sunblock, Creme de la Mer for night, La Mer moisturizing lotion for day, Exuviance by NeoStrata Evening Restorative Complex.
Makeup: Lorac concealer, Chanel Perfecting Pressed Powder in Dawn (superfine), Chanel Glossimer in Volage, Max Factor 2000 Calorie Mascara, Vincent Longo Glimmer Formula Shadow in Topaz Smoke, Duo Blush in Beyond.
Hair: Graham Webb shampoo, Kerastase conditioner from L'Oreal.
Fitness: five time a week work outs with weights, StairMaster and gyrotonics; small meals with low carbs.
Signature scent: Ambra di Venezia by Montgomery Taylor from Takashimaya.
Fashion: (for this one I'll give an exact quote) "Hate shopping--love clothes. I mix close-to-the-body, trendy pieces from Tom Ford for Gucci, Vivienne Westwood and Nicholas Ghesquiere for Balenciaga with my favorite jeans. Lately I've been wearing a delicate Prada chiffon dress with a black leather jacket. It's that contradictory mix of feminine and tough that makes things look new. My weekend look is just my Brazilian jeans with a tee and sexy Jimmy Choo shoes."
So that's the More article--very short.
A little later tonight I'll post excerpts from the Playboy feature.

Registered: 5/3/2002 | posted: 7/2/2004 at 10:54:26 PM ET Okay, everyone knows what Playboy is, so I don't have to explain that. Bernadette was on the cover, and inside in a photo layout of Bob Mackie lingerie, of the December 1981 issue. You can see the pictures by using the link that Jean provided above. Now remember, this was almost 25 years ago, so just because she said something then doesn't mean she thinks it now.
"When we asked Bernadette--she of the flawless complexion, and other unmistakable assets--if she would pose in Mackie's creations, she allowed that it would be her pleasure. "Bob is a very kind man and a close friend. Besides, I think lingerie is sexy."
Regular contributor David Rensin conducted an interview with Bernadette during the photo session. Says Rensin: "When we finally settled down to talk, I found her to be bright, with a subtle wit and an infectious giggle. It was also clear that Bernadette chooses her answers carefully. She said she wanted to protect a cherished private life. Still, she responded to our gentle prying with good humor and didn't seem to mind revealing her wonderful figure in Mackie's designs or her feelings in general."
Playboy: How did you like wearing this stuff?
Bernadette: I like lingerie. Sometimes it's not so practical, because it creates lumps under your clothes, but it's great to put on. Personally, I love Bob's designs and that stuff that comes from Paris. They use great materials and I like the most expensive stuff.
Playboy: Tell us about your Playtex bra commercial.
Bernadette: How did you know about that? It's not in my bio. [thoughtful pause] I got involved in it when I was out looking for work and had to take anything that came along. I mean it wasn't immoral, indecent or illegal...but then, you at Playboy wouldn't think that, anyway. Besides, those commercials make you a lot of money.
===========================================
Playboy: Did showing as much skin as you did (at the 1981 Academy Awards) make you at all uneasy, make you feel as if everyone were staring somewhere below your chin?
Bernadette: Well, the dress was heavily beaded and you couldn't tell if you were seeing something or not. But I'm not self-conscious about that stuff.....It's almost got to be like your wearing a bathrobe; treat it as if it were absolutely nothing. Then it works and it's incredible. When I feel good about something, then I forget it. I'm only self-conscious when I wear something schleppy. I don't have any complexes about my---
Playboy: Yes, once and for all, what do women call them?
Bernadette: Breasts. When I'm having fun, I may call them boobs.
Playboy: Do you have any tattoos?
Bernadette: No. But I wish I did. Well, maybe not a tattoo. A decal.
Playboy: Where would you put it?
Bernadette: Someplace nice.
Playboy: What did you want to be when you grew up?
Bernadette: I wanted to be a waitress, I swear. I used to live in Queens, and after my piano lessons in Manhattan, I'd go to this coffee shop and meet my sister and friends. And there was this waitress there who was terrific. I used to watch her and think, God, what a neat job, taking the dishes and putting them in that secret well behinf the counter. I didn't know what was under there. I found out later it was gray tubs. I thought it was better than that. I guess I just wanted to be busy, and now I am.
Playboy: Does being beautiful sometimes get in the way, build a fence around you?
Bernadette: I never considered myself beautiful. I mean, I never had that problem. Of course, the package should be nice, but it's really the person I'm getting used to, accepting myself, and I think that what I look like is, uh, strange. It's hard to be objective.
Playboy: When is Steve Martin funniest to you?
Bernadette: You mean, is he funny when he, like, trips all the time? He's not funny when he's not trying to be. He's not on all the time...he's an intelligent and funny guy...He doesn't put lamp shades on his head or anything like that. You know I really don't think about those things...
Playboy: One thing you and Steve have in common is your dietary habits, right?
Bernadette:Yes, we're both vegetarians.
Playboy: What's your favorite vegetable?
Bernadette: Spinach. I like it with butter and slivers of almonds. I also like plain Chinese pea pods.
Playboy: Are you a good cook?
Bernadette: I try. I need more practice. However, I do make a very good ricotta cake. That's really easy. And I like to do pasta with a pesto sauce, but you've got to be careful if the door bell rings, because your pasta can get overcooked while you're going to answer it.
Playboy: What else do you and Steve have in common?
Bernadette: We like each other.
Playboy: Are you uncomfortable talking about Steve?
Bernadette: I'm not real comfortable talking about my private life. I'm such a public person that I need something left for myself. It's only fair.
Playboy: Since you're always on the go, what do you do to keep up? What do you read, watch on TV.
Bernadette: I watch 60 Minutes, though that's getting a little predictable now. I love the New York Times. I watch the news, but if the newscasters are too cute, I turn it off. Sunday Morning is a good show; I love Charles Kuralt. As for what I read, I like Lillian Hellman and Truman Capote, to start.
============================================
Playboy: How can you tell if someone's falling in love with you?
Bernadette: I can't. I'm not good at telling that. So I ask. If I realize that someone's been doing something for a while, like following me around, I'll say "Do you like me?"
And that's it. Obviously, I left parts out, but only minor stuff that seemed superfluous. This is about all the typing I can handle.

Registered: 5/3/2002 | posted: 7/4/2004 at 11:53:24 AM ET Here's another old quotation I dug up. It's from a quickie paperback from 1980 called "Steve Martin: an unauthorized biography" by Marsha Daly.
"Both had come to vegetarianism as the result of reading about the subject. But whereas Steve shrugged off questions about his personal belief, Bernadette candidly admitted, "It began when I read about all those shots that were injected into meat to make greater profit when the cattle went to market." After reading just a few such articles, she says she gave up flesh and "concentrated on lots of green salads and fresh and raw vegetables," a diet that is similar to Steve's. Neither is an extremist, however, and they often dine on fish for protein."
I've seen other more recent quotations, in which Bernadette says she doesn't feel healthy or energetic enough unless she gets sufficient protein. I don't know much about the subject, but don't some people who consider themselves vegetarian eat fish?

From: Maryland | posted: 7/4/2004 at 5:27:35 PM ET As a vegetarian, it drives me INSANE when people eat fish or chicken and claim to be vegetarians. Technically speaking, the vegetarian community would consider them semi-veggies, but not full ones because fish are animals.

Registered: 8/14/2003 | posted: 7/4/2004 at 8:25:12 PM ET I friend of mine says she is a vegetarian but I know she eats fish. From what I have read there are tons of different "kinds" of vegetarians these days. I also remember when she hosted with Regis a few years ago and she spoke about ordering chicken parmesan. I've heard her say she definately doesn't eat red meat but I am not sure about other things like fish and poultry....
