Does anyone have Bernadette bios from old Playbills? Like from George M? I really like the one from On the Town that Kevin has under photos.

Here's her George M bio: Bernadette Peters (Josie Cohan) this fall impersonated Alice Faye in Culey McDimple when that hit spoof of Hollywood's musical extravaganzas opened at the Bert Wheeler Theatre. Earlier in the season she was featured on Broadway in Johnny No Trump, and off-Broadway audiences have seen her as Cinderella in The Penny Friend and in Dames at Sea. At Glen Cove's Wedgewood Dinner Theatre she played in The Boy Friend, and she's appeared on television in NBC's Experiments in TV as well as on Kraft and Hallmark Hall of Fame programs. A native of Queens, Miss Peters had her stage baptism in Otto Preminger's This is Goggle.
Another early playbill bio is from the Betty Hutton Gypsy in 1962 Ohio summer stock circuit: Bernadette Peters, who plays Dainty June (June Havoc) doubled in this role as understudy while she played "Agnes" in the National Company for eight months last year. Her experience in these roles was unique in that she was called upon to portray both parts one evening due to an accident back stage. Bernadette made her first public appearance on a radio show called Juvenile Jury at the age of three and a half. She made her first appearance on stage at the age of 9 in a play produced and directed by Otto Preminger, starring Kim Hunter and James Daly This is Goggle. The Washington critics gave this young actress great reviews. Miss Peters has been seen as Tessie in City Center's production of Most Happy Fella. Bernadette, now 14 yrs. has been featured in numbers of major dramatic shows for television, including Kraft Theatre, Hallmark, etc. Miss Peters recently recorded for United Artists Records. She attends Quintano's School for young professionals.
A while back, I posted her bios from the playbill and the souveneir book of W.C., so you could find those by using search. I don't have any others from the sixties (yet!) but if anyone else does, it would be great if they could post.

I think I posted her Dames at Sea bio at some time. Should be able to find it through a search.

Thanks for posting this one, Karen.

It's interesting how things & names from BP's early career popped up as her career grew. For example, in the first Playbill bio Jean had in her e-mail it says she was playing at the Bert Wheeler theater ....Bert Wheeler (a vaudeville actor?) is mentioned in one of the songs of Dames at Sea. She understudied for and played a role in Gypsy on the road and now stars in the show on broadway.

Yeah, and James Daly who starred in This is Goggle, is the father of none other than Tyne Daly.

Does anyone know if Jose Quintano's School for Young Professional still exists and if it was and is a good school?

It does still exist but is called The Professional Children's School, I believe.

As for your other question, yeah right!

To futuremamarose87:
I know you probably asked your question about Bernadette's "hangouts" in all youthful innocence and exuberance, but we really are quite sensitive to the appearance of stalking or other improprieties that we may read about on this board.

We are her fans, not here to annoy or otherwise scare her but to support her. Please take this advice to heart and be careful about asking inappropriate questions.

I am also copying from the FAQ section of this site:

"Where's the best place to meet her?
Posted by stacy122685; last updated 7/8/2003.

The very best place to meet her is at the stage door after her performance. Many fans gather there after performances to get autographs, pictures taken etc. When posting on the message boards, it is strongly recommended that questions that invade Ms. Peters' privacy--must not be asked.--We thank you in advance for your cooperation."

I may be wrong about this, but I thought Professional Children's School was a completly separate school which has been around for a long time. I believe Quintano's has been defunct for many years. Also, I don't think "Jose" was part of the name. Are you perhaps thinking of the director Jose Quintero? My impression of the school was that it was a place where teenagers employed professionally in show business and busy working could get their required credits as quickly and painlessly as possible without having to be in class that much.

Curious me did a search-look who else is an alumnus:

Steven Tyler(but not by its official name?)

Waddy Wachtel from Fleetwood Mac

Nancy Allen

Sounds like Karen has the right idea.

Patty Duke wrote an article when she was 14-apparently,classes were held 10-1.

Thanks Jenn, very interesting. In the Nancy Allen link it does refer to it as Jose Quintano's, so maybe I was wrong. Unless that was a mistake. Anyone know for sure?

Interesting. That is right near where I live. It must be where City Center is now or at least close to it.
