Nice to see some familiar faces round these parts!

LOL, Jean. Does everyone on every message board on the internet know what I have been up to?

Q: Any funny incidents or accidents with Kristin (Chenoweth)?

Norbert Leo Butz: I have this Errol Flynn moment where I swing in on this rope. One night in San Francisco, I let go of the rope and the rest of the actors started cracking up. I turned around and the rope had literally tied around Kristin's head and got caught on her crown and was pulling her off stage. It was like watching Barbie get hung.

To say that Bernadette and Kristin look like they could be sisters is insulting. Bernadette is unusual and beautiful; one of a kind. Kristin Chenoweth is plain. I guess some may think she's pretty, but her look is completely pedestrian and small town. I've seen that face a million times. She does not at all begin to compare to the gorgeousness of Bernadette.

Hello, anon, who are you?

I did not mean to insult anyone, and if you had been around long enough to know, you would understand that I am one of Bernadette's most avid (and old) fans. I agree, she is a most lovely and unusual woman-truly an original.

That said, however, I don't like bashing Kristin, which is, of course, the point that many of us have been trying to make. Freedom of expression; opinion; yes. But, civil and reasonable, without the childish rant(oh, did I just say that).

Yours in admiration:
Jean

Oooh, what I'd give to look as plain and pedestrian and have a voice like Kristin Chenoweth.

Annie, I think most people would agree. It may be hard to resist comparisons between the two, but let's try and keep them less invidious.

I'm not bashing Kristin's talent. I think she's very talented, but I'm sticking to what I said. While I can see why, superficially, the two would be compared (funny voice and boobs), Bernadette is way out of Kristin's league in appearance. Yes, Kristin is plain. She is not any prettier than every average blond girl walking down the street. Bernadette, however, is gorgeous and incomparable to anyone else. Anyone with good taste can see that.

Doubt you'd get an argument from anyone on this site, Anon, that Bernadette is special, gorgeous and incomparable.

And I stick with what I said. Kristin is lovely; you must have a very high threshold of plain.
She's also young. Bernadette has had a long career (since age 3, is it?) and is still out there working it, and just gets better and better (and she is more gorgeous in her 50s, IMHO). That's where you can't compare. Let's see where Chenoweth goes in a couple more decades.

And I think I have pretty dang good taste, too. That's why I'm a Bernadette Peters fan.

Disagree again. Yes, Kristin is blonde and there are a lot of blondes out there. But I think she has just lovely features, and she also has a radiance about her (which stems from the sort of person she is) that makes her stand out, and makes you notice her. And if that's considered plain, well, I'll take that any day.

Bernadette has a very different look than Kristin. She is beautiful, but in a different way. She has a very unique look, and style.

I don't think Bernadette and Kristin could be sisters, but I think, career-wise, that comparisons could be made.

Good Point SOA. Kristen is exactly 20 years younger than Bernadette, born in 1968. I think Bernadette had definitely accomplished more on a high profile scale at the same age that Kristen is now but she really had not entered into the "Diva/Legend" period of her life yet. At Kristen's current age, Bernadette was just starring in Sunday in the Park with George and I really feel that show is what opened Bernadette's career wide open. Perhaps Wicked will do the same thing for Kristen. Think of the growth Bernadette has had as a performer since that show. Sure, in 20 years, maybe people will be going "Kristen Who?" or they might just be calling her the reigning "First Lady of the American Musical Theater". Time will tell.

I plan on Bernadette reigning as First Lady of the American Theatre for at least the next THIRTY years, then maybe she can settle down and get a murder-mystery show on NBC prime time. Kristen is ...fine. I don't think this show is her SUNDAY IN THE PARK. I think it is Idina Menzel's SUNDAY IN THE PARK. Kristen doesn't really stand out to me, Idina is what the show is about, and I hope that she will win the Tony this year.. well deserved. I agree that Kristen is Plain (along with the other anonymous) but I also agree with the opposers that Kristen does have wonderful presence and is a great comedy actor as well (But I don't think she has mastered her craft yet). I think Kristen is still young in her talent. She, to me, is a big potential. I'm not saying she isn't famous or she isn't talented, I am saying that I think she still has a lot of growing to do. THAT IS A COMPLIMENT. I am kind of a contradiction, because I am not impressed by kristen (talent or looks), but I do think she is going to go on to better things.

That's kind of funny, because yes...Bernadette is quite stunning and unique; but truth be told, I often see Bernadette look-a-likes on the street, and I have yet to see one person that resembles Kristin Chenoweth (height aside even).

Also, keep in mind that as far as Kristin's career goes, she was in College getting her MBA rather than getting jobs on stage or screen. She wasn't even studying to be a Broadway actress...she was going to be an Opera singer; but she came to NYC, went on an audition, got the part, and that part led her on the path to where she is now in her career and where she will go in the future.

These 2 women chose different paths, and both have been successful. Yes, Bernadette is more well known and more successful; but she's been at it her entire life, whereas Kristin has been at it maybe 15 years at most. I would say that's a good start for someone so "plain."

ENOUGH with putting kristin chenoweth down! she is beautiful, incredibly talented and really sweet. why do you certain people have to be so negative? and don't give me the "i'm just stating my opinion" stuff because calling an adorable actress "plain" and putting down her career is more than stating an opinion. it's rude and i doubt bernadette would endorse these kinds of catty comparisons. so cool it already! i am sicking of reading this! it's not nice!

Kristin Chenoweth is going to have fans in plain women who like to see other plain women elevated to celebrity status. She is also going to have fans in men who like accessible, girl-next-door women. That is why PLAIN WOMEN like Jennifer Love Hewitt and Jennifer Lopez and Jennifer Aniston are considered beautiful too -- the accessible, familiarity of their plain looks. Go to any farm or small town in this country and you will see Kristin Chenoweths walking around. Not so for Bernadette. And no, you do not see Bernadette look alikes. You may see petite women with curly red hair but that this is not a Bernadette look alike. That's like saying that Bernadette Peters and Bette Midler look alike.

But are looks really that important? Many people have noted for a long time our society's over-emphasis of appearance. Maybe it shouldn't matter so much, even for performers. I don't really know--just my tiny contribution to the discussion.

Well.........I'm hesitant to voice my opinion here in fear of what people might respond. However, I have been reading these posts today and I feel I have something to say, so here it goes........

First of all, I have been reading the ATC post about Kristin lately and THOSE are vicious and mean! I don't think anyone here is bashing her in that way. It's one of the reasons why I post here and not there.

Second of all, I don't think anyone here has been entirely rude in respect to Kristin. They are just voicing their opinions like they should be able to do. I find that anon posters have an opinion but they don't feel comfortable revealing themselves in fear of what others might think. So I ask myself, how sure are you of your opinion???

I'm not trying to cause a fight I swear. I think both Kristin and Bernadette are wonderful in their own ways. There is room for both of them on Broadway, and I think any comments made about them were harmless and in good fun. If anyone wants to complain I would go and check out those other forums out there.

Sorry about the rant, but I had to say it. I've always felt that the theatre community was a supportive group and when I read things like this here and on other forums it dissapoints me.

Can't everyone just get along!

You either got it, or you aint!
