Someone posted on ATC that there was apparently a boost at the box office this past week, the cast has offered to take pay cuts and that they might tour if Bernadette's schedule permits. Sounds like this production of Gypsy might have some life left in it.

Gee I hope it's right! I've been calling telecharge to see the show again before it closes, and being I can only go on a saturday afternoon all of them are sold out I'm so sad. I really hope it continues.

Last week's box office was up 14% from the previous week to almost 63% capacity. If they really can rally and somehow extend or tour, it would be so fantastic. It sounds unrealistic, but with the group of people associated with this show, the almost impossible seems possible. Here's hoping.

Re grosses: well, good to see the increase, don't know what they need to keep the show open. I think it would be fun if they toured--we can all jet all over the country to see the show in different venues. (Joke.) And wouldn't it be great for the rest of the country to see this wonderful cast and show. No joke.

Re: tickets; I just checked the internet Telecharge site. There is a ticket for Feb. 14 matinee (Balcony E-9) and for Feb. 21 matinee (Bal. C-15). Something's weird, as they do not seem to be sold out as you were told, B18... (Oh, you have to pay full price, I think--there aren't any tickets for the matinees at the special offer price.)

I would be very, very surprised if the producers of GYPSY send the show out on tour, in light of the lost capitalization. It seems to me a much riskier prospect, due to the colossal expenses of moving a big show like this one out to other cities in a rough economy, than toughing it out for another month or so at a significant loss until the weather improves. But that's just my opinion. I will be VERY surprised if there will be a tour. I hate to see GYPSY close, but I think it's time we all accept the inevitable, and enjoy the final 3 weeks of the run as much as we can. The $63,290 increase for the last week represented a jump of just 14 percent, and this was with a huge amount of publicity about the bad weather and what it has done to Broadway. With a vast number of seats to all of the final shows (except the Saturday evenings) being sold at a significant discount through the SEASON OF SAVINGS program, there is only so much the show can make, and the increase can only go to a certain point. And with tickets no longer on sale beyond the scheduled closing date, the show will have no advance sale. The way I see it, 347 performances is nothing to sneeze at. The company of this GYPSY should be immensely proud of what they achieved, and the magic they have created. I would love to see the show soldier on, and run for many more months, but I must admit that when I saw the add in the New York Times yesterday proclaiming "LAST 24 CHANCES TO SEE..." with the review excerpt about Bernadette's performance, something in my heart told me, this is it. It has been a magnificent 8 months for those of us who love Bernadette and love this brilliant show. And that is cause to celebrate.

According to The Times article, Gypsy needs about $500K a week to cover their operating expenses. So they are still down but certainly much closer to their "nut". Let's hope next weeks grosses are even better which might give them a chance of sticking around for a while.

Hmm. What tour stops could I make it to? hee hee

Rob, I understand your point but every Gypsy production on Broadway has had a tour before or after their Broadway run and I believe, it has contributed to the production's ability in making an overall profit. I think the audience that wants to see the show on Broadway is drying up and they could possibly find a new audience on the road. Though its still quite a chance to take.

Hey, if they do decide to extend the show, when do you think that would be announced??? I had tickets for March 15th, and don't know whether to trade for another show yet or not, since no one knows if they will extend...

They could wait up until the last night of the show to extend it! The producers could come on at the end of the show on the 28th and say it will be open a few more weeks...or they may tell us within the next week...we'll see!!!!!!

Unless it is convenient for you to exchange your ticket for a February performance, I would hold on to your ticket for another week. I think the performance of Gypsy's sales in this next week will really give the producers a good feeling for whether they should extend the show. But Bernielover is right. They could literally announce it at the curtain of the "last" show though I doubt they would. If they know ahead of time, they are going to want to let the actors know as well as the public.

That's my dilemma too; I've got two great tickets for March 13, and I am reluctant to send them back yet. We planned a whole trip to NYC around going to this show.
