"Miss Peters is especially interesting in relation to her feet: she dances as if they'd stuck to her and she were frantically trying to get rid of them."

"I'll try," she says, gamely, eyes piercing the backstage gloom like automobile headlights. Then, trying, she slaps her feet into a routine that would have put Eleanor Powell plus Ruby Keeler to shame.
Miss Peters is a real find, as winning a winsome frump as ever came from the cornlands . . . . She is extremely funny and endearing on top of that.
From Richard Watts Jr. New York Post 1/17/69:
There is sheer perfection in the performance of Bernadette Peters, who is Ruby, the archtype of those 30s ingenues. Miss Peters never for a moment makes the mistake of seeming to be kidding. She is very grave, very sincere and very appealing, which doesn't keep her from being very amusing. She happens to be a young actress, but I would advise veterans of far greater experience who want to learn how parody should be done to study the earnest charm she adds to her humor.
From Evening News 12/24/68:
The real joy is Miss Peters, wheedling her way to stage center to belt out "Raining in My Heart" as sailors twirl plastic parasols behind her. She is fun to see at work, manipulating a deadpan face. She's a real show stealer and she can tap beautifully.
From WCBS Radio:
Bernadette Peters whom I have adored in evertyhing since Johnny No Trump last season now receives my love as well. This girl is good at everthing she does -- but the kind of singing, dancing and acting required of the performer working in this style finds her at her brilliant best.
I thought this was kinda funny from Newsweek:
Bernadette Peters has the wide-eyed naivete of a retarded cupid as she stumbles into Greater Gotham from the sticks with neon in her eyes, announcing: "I just got off the bus and I want to be in a Broadway show."

Chiquita, I'm sorry, someone asked me before where it was from and I forgot to answer. Its from the New York Times. I have a copy of the article now and it actually shows a cute (if not a little too much of a close up) of Bernadette and her mother and father.
does anybody have any photos of her brother or parents? thanks
