I'm really curious as to which members of the principal cast will transfer to Los Angeles. I don't think Jan, Elaine, or Danny will go; not sure about Bernadette. Also, I could be wrong but I think Ron has something going on during that time.

From: CA | posted: 12/19/2011 at 12:07:39 PM ET That's not a very long flight at all. I thought you might be driving which would probably take a long time.
I'm very curious to know who is transferring as well. I don't think Elaine will transfer. I'm not sure about the other 4. I know Jan doesn't want to leave her son, but it is only 6 weeks and he is 15. Maybe he could fly out when school ends to visit her. I don't see why BP wouldn't do it. She seems like she has been wanting to play this part for a long time and she gets better the longer she is in a role.
I wouldn't mind if new actors took the roles over. Like what happened from DC to Broadway when new cast members came on. Maybe more Hollywood names will join the cast. It will be interesting to see who is cast.

From: North Carolina | posted: 12/19/2011 at 12:51:00 PM ET If they start rehearsals in April, Bernadette would have to cancel/reschedule six of her concerts:
CT 4/13 - 4/14
OH 4/20 - 4/22
PA 5/4
MA 5/9
VT 5/17
NJ 6/2
That means she would be cancelling 50% of her currently scheduled 2012 concerts. I can't see her doing that just for a six week run in Los Angeles. I think she would if FOLLIES got extended on Broadway until June, but not L.A. Plus, we all know how much she likes to sing and give concerts. Also, if plans for I DO! I DO! with Martin Short come to fruition before L.A. negotiations are complete, then I would think that she wouldn't go along with the transfer.

From: CA | posted: 12/19/2011 at 1:45:39 PM ET I know you want her to do her concerts and I want to her come to L.A. : )
Those are a lot of concerts to have to cancel and possibly reschedule. Although she has cancelled concerts before, but that was to work on Broadway. I'm not sure if she'll do the same to work in L.A. I guess it depends on what she wants to do more.
We'll just have to wait and see. : )

From: North Carolina | posted: 12/19/2011 at 2:11:58 PM ET I do want her to go to L.A. so that you can see her, but then I also want her to do the concerts (since I have tickets to the one in NJ). I just wish they didn't overlap.
Like you said, we'll find out soon.

I didn't realize tickets for the NJPAC went on sale.
I saw this and it doesn't list her as a performer.
http://www.njpac.org/all_events.asp?viewcode=0&startDate=2012-6-2&Date=2012-6-2
but then I found this and this does

very strange.

From: North Carolina | posted: 12/19/2011 at 4:09:39 PM ET Yeah, it's weird. Before I bought the tickets, I had to search around the NJPAC website a little to find the second link that you posted. My ticket stub says "An Evening with Bernadette Peters" so I'm good to go. That is, unless Bernadette goes to L.A.
Have the tickets for the California concert gone on sale yet?

There are only about 100 seats left all in the last few rows of the balcony.

Registered: 5/8/2003 | posted: 12/23/2011 at 11:19:21 PM ET Hi all. I used to post here years ago and finally found my way back.
I've seen Follies six times, all on Broadway. It's an exquisite production with a stellar cast. Bernadette is of course sublime. It's interesting to see her do something so different and complex. She makes Sally so real, so human. Her "Losing My Mind" destroyed me every time. I'd never seen her (or anyone except Marin Mazzie in Next to Normal) cry so much onstage. Bernadette's entire performance is so nuanced and I don't think she's getting enough credit for it.
Having said that, I've seen her as Rose, Desiree, and Sally, and I think she was at her best as Desiree. Not that she wasn't brilliant as the other two.

Wow, you've seen FOLLIES six times? Very cool! I've only seen it twice and am going back to NYC next month to see it for a third time. Can't wait!
Bernadette does make Sally very real and human, as you said. No matter what kind of character she plays (be it on film, TV, etc.), she always draws me in to her performance. The breadth of roles that she is able to successfully take on is incredible. There's just no stopping her!
I also don't think Bernadette is getting enough credit for her performance. Because of her, Sally is now one of my favorite musical theater characters.
I do find it a little funny that Sally is supposed to be kind of tan from being out in Phoenix and tending the flowers each morning, and Bernadette is, well, not so tan. Maybe the flowers are indoors. It, of course, doesn't take anything away from her performance. Just an observation.

The part of the song "In Buddy's Eyes" where she talks about tending to the flowers, painting and cooking and how "ducky" her life is, is one big lie.
She is essentially saying look how happy Buddy and I are together. Are you this happy with Phyllis?
I think Sally more than likely sits at home all day drinks, eats, and doesn't do much of anything else. Buddy comes home on the weekend and cleans up after her then goes back to work.
I think that is why she isn't tan. Making someone tan is easily done with makeup.

From: North Carolina | posted: 1/2/2012 at 6:40:38 PM ET Just found this video of Elaine Paige and Ron Raines on Theater Talk (originally aired in October). Elaine and Ron speak about "I'm Still Here" and "The Road You Didn't Take." It's very interesting, and definitely cleared some things up for me about those two songs.
In "I'm Still Here," I had no idea that the "I should've gone to an acting school" line was referencing back to the communism bit. I also didn't know that Ben is lying in "The Road You Didn't Take." Well, now I know... and knowing is half the battle.
Enjoy!

From: North Carolina | posted: 1/10/2012 at 5:09:02 PM ET I saw the show again last weekend. Bernadette made it very apparent that Sally was greatly depressed--more so than I remember in previous times--but still seemed a little crazy to me.
I didn't notice as much crying in "Losing My Mind"; she sang through it more. Bernadette also seemed to dance exceptionally well in the "Who's That Woman?" number.
(Jan Maxwell didn't do a cartwheel at the end of "The Story of Lucy and Jessie.")

Registered: 5/8/2003 | posted: 1/10/2012 at 6:05:34 PM ET AMH, sorry you missed the cartwheel. It seems to be a hit or miss. She did it twice out of the four times I recently saw it.
