Hadn't heard much about Bette Midler lately (and she is my 2nd favorite singer after BP) but apparently her new CD is all Peggy Lee songs and the first one is Fever...one that folks have been saying BP should record on her next CD.

Bette sang "Fever" and "Big Spender" (with Katie Couric) on the Today Show yesterday. They should not have done Big Spender, even as a novelty it was embarrassing. I prefer Bernadette's "I'm-too-sexy-for-my-clothes" rendition of Fever, but I did like Bette's kind of amusing, wry take on it.

Bette sang the hell out of "Is That All There Is" at the Higher Ground Benefit at Jazz at Lincoln Center last month. I have it. Interested? PM me.

Glad to hear many of you liked it. I believe it hasn't received very good reviews so far but hopefully there will be some good reviews coming. I'm not sure Bette's voice is exactly right for Peggy Lee material but I'll pass my final judgement when I fianlly hear it.

I very much enjoy Bette's Rosemary Clooney tribute album, so I might give the Peggy Lee CD a try. HOWEVER, as I wrote after the Norfolk concert last month (tho that seems AGES ago), Bernadette's "Fever" is THE rendition in my mind now, and I thought no one could touch Peggy Lee on that song.

(Good point made to Anon, Jean. Bernadette would be the first to appreciate a 'junior high'er's enthusiasm and joy.)

Bette Midler is my favorite singer of all time. Yes, even above the Queen.
As far as I'm concerned, Bernadette is Queen, whereas Bette is God. lol Not to insult anyone who is very religious.

I met her yesterday! For the first time! I went to her CD signing in the Village. I'm still not really convinced it actually happened.

I like the Rosemary Clooney album better than the Peggy Lee one, but this one has it's good moments. Her rendition of "Fever" really is not as well done as Bernadette's. As Jean said, it was amusing; but I prefer the way Bernadette sings it.

I really like "He's A Tramp."

Also, I say I *Heart* things all the time.

wow Christine I am so jealous that you met Bette! I adore her so much! She's up there with my top five singers (Bette, Mariah, Karen Carpenter, Judy, Bernadette).

I have to agree though that I loved her Rosemary Clooney album and in comparison, this one is great but not brillant. Also, I didn't like the duet with Barry Manilow. Nothing compares to "Slow Boat...". Have any of you seen her in concert? I saw her at MSG 10th row and would recommend it to ANYONE! She is one of the greatest stage performers of our time.

I found it strange when in "I Love You Being Here" (the new duet with Barry), they actually sing a little lyric from Slow Boat to China. lol It makes no sense.

I saw the "Kiss My Brass" concert 3 times. She is amazing live. Such a real performer.

I think if Bernadette tried to sing her version of "Fever" on network TV, well, let's just say censors probably wouldn't allow it. lol Plus Dave would probably have another heart attack.

Bette sang that song better on the Today Show Monday morning. She seemed rushed tonight.
