My favorite movie time-the new movies between Thanksgiving and Christmas! What do you have your eye on?

For me, it has to be Dreamgirls. I *cannot* wait for this movie. I love the score (and what a story), and from what I've read and seen of the movie, it looks tremendous.

I'm going to see it when I'm with my mom (comes out on Christmas). I knew Dreamgirls would be something she would love-she just didn't know it. She's looking forward to it now.

Also-the new Charlotte's Web movie (be quiet-I'm a children's librarian). The book has been reprinted with Dakota Fanning on the cover. Remember the darling Garth Williams illustrations, particularly the cover with Fern in profile holding Wilbur? The movie cover has the same exact image, except it's Dakota in profile. I have nothing against Dakota Fanning, but gaaaah!

I reread Charlotte's Web every year. Always makes me cry.

There are other movies that I want to see, but I've been waiting for those two for a long time, for sentimental reasons.

I'm very much looking forward to For Your Consideration and Bobby looks like it might be good. And maybe Happy Feet. I'm a sucker for a good animated feature. It is a good time for good movies.

The History Boys and For Your Consideration but neither of these will be in the Christmas/holiday season because I'm going to Midland for Christmas and they barely get "blockbusters". But while I'm there I'll alternate playing with my niece and nephew and laying on the couch watching marathons of Murder, She Wrote on the Biography Channel in HD.

By the way, if you haven't seen them already, don't miss The Queen and Little Miss Sunshine.

The most recent new releases I saw are "Running With Scissors" and "Shut Up & Sing!"
Both good. Scissors is very long though, so going late at night was a mistake on my part.

I am looking forward to "Happy Feet" at the Imax, "Deck the Halls", "Dreamgirls", "Charlotte's Web", and "For Your Consideration."

I'll add my excitement for "For Your Consideration." I adore all the Christopher Guest movies and I cannot wait to see Catherine O'Hara in this one...she is always fabulous.

And "The Queen" is brilliant...Helen Mirren does such an incredible job as Queen Elizabeth II and I will definitely be rooting for her come Oscar season.

I just saw a commerical for "The Holiday" and even though I don't really enjoy Jack Black, I have to add this one to my list.
Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet as 2 women who do not know each other, but switch houses (in different coutnries) to get a fresh perspective and away from their current life situations.

I just got back from seeing "For your Consideration" and have nothing but great things to say about it! Highlights for me were Catherine O'Hara, who never ceases to amaze me in anything she is in and Jane Lynch. THe film itself itsn't necessarily laugh out loud funny like other Guest films such as "Best in Show" but it has a satirical quality that makes it hilarious in its own right. Although I heard some negative comments leaving the theater (I suspect they are new to Guest's work) I would strongly recommend this film to Christopher Guest fans.

I will see Notes on a Scandal because I want to see the inevitable explosion of Cate and Judi on the screen together but Good Lord, we must not expect a feel good experience from this film. Notes on a Scandal Trailer

(PS - Bernadette was on the boobtube this weekend - no pun intended - Annie was on yesterday and Bobbie's Girl was on Saturday)

Saw both The Queen and Bobby this weekend and thought both were very good.

I saw For Your Consideration last night. I have to say I was a bit disappointed by the film, but it was still pretty good. But I certainly was not disappointed by the brilliant Catherine O'Hara...her performance is worth the price of admission (though I saw it for free). And she just got nominated for Lead Actress for the Independent Spirit Awards...maybe this exposure will force filmmakers other than Christopher Guest to give her roles worthy of her incredible talent.

I saw "Dreamgirls" on Wednesday. I loved it.
They DO sing through pretty much the entire movie, so if you don't like old style musicals where even when they talk, they sing, then do not see this movie.
There were 2 or 3 moments in the film that I thought were cheesy, but overall I give it a Go-See-It! Review.

"Ladies in Lavender" is a sweet, sweet story. My Mom and I saw it in London and then almost a year later saw it at the Tribeca Film Festival. If you like Daniel Bruhl who plays the young man in "Ladies in Lavender" and you like foreign films, definitely check out "Goodbye Lenin". I saw it at the Angelika in 2003 and it's a wonderfully sweet and funny film. Daniel Bruhl is a doll. Also featured in "Ladies in Lavender" is the music of violin hunk Joshua Bell, and it just doesn't get much better than that.
