Doesn't it, Karen?

There have been many moments over the last 4+ years that I have been ashamed to be a U.S. Citizen. Now maybe we can become the humble super power that this country needs to be and the world deserves.

We were so happy at our house last night, I needed a double scotch just to wind down at 1AM!
We had a terrible challenger in our Congressional District (NC 13) who ran what had to be the sleaziest, dirtiest and expensive campaign ever in these parts. It was good to see him get trounced - his unhinged concession speech was something like "now all your children will have to learn two languages!" (apparently bilingual abilities are a bad thing for wingnuts).

Webb (D) is claiming victory, calling himself "senator elect," and will announce the members of his transition team. Allen (R) is not conceding yet, however.

Very nervewracking here in Virginia!

Can it be??!!

leebee, the race between Webb and Allen here in Virginia was one of the weirdest and ugliest I've ever seen. Mainly weird on Allen's side.

And I'm from Louisiana.

Not as weird and ugly, say, as the Louisiana governor race between Edwin Edwards, a convicted crook (Dem!) and David Duke, a former KKK member (Repub!).

(reminiscing) I remember that race well. Oh, yes, my children. The very first election in which I was eligible to vote. You could hear people groaning in the voting machines.

But this Senate race... weird and ugly, definitely.

Jenn

Here in Arizona we passed a historic ban on veal crates and gestation crates for pregnant pigs. Now at least these poor animals will have enough room to turn around and strectch their limbs. Out of all the states that had a ban of gay marriage on the ballot we were the only state in which it failed. Although same sex marriage is still of course illegal at least here in AZ same sex partners will have the benefit of common law marriage and rights. We also finally passed a statewide ban on smoking and our female democrat governor was re-elected. Overall not bad for a traditionally republican state with a redneck mentality.
