ok...I wrote this about third world countries, to raise awareness...For every one breath that we take, at least one person dies in a third world country, and more than 20,000 die in a day...

Precious Breath

Quiet.
Quiet as a gentle breath
You call a person home.
One life at a time they disappear.
I never understood exactly why.
Why they go one life at a time.
Life is so mysterious.
They walk the Earth,
They eat Earth’s food.
They live if you call it that.
So tell me now
What did they do to you?
Their only sin was being born,
Born into poverty.
One more breath,
Another life’s gone.
I see how it is.
One breath,
It happens again.
One second,
One minute
One hour
One day.
They’re taken from the Earth
2,000 plus.
The quantity it is great.
When we slumber,
We know we shall wake.
While we breathe,
More lives are taken.
The cycle begins,
And continues.
The precious breaths we take to live,
Are the breaths that they long for.
And the breaths they will take no more.

IT'S BEEN 13 YEARS ON THE ICE CHUNK...with the Pink Panguins who run the Dunkin' Doughnuts...how I long for the island...with the little green duckies...

most recent piece...

The Lighthouse
(Every lost vessel has a lighthouse standing guard. This piece is for all of my lighthouses watching out for me)

I am a vessel lost at sea,
Fearing for the worst.
The waves hit hard against my sides,
Leaving battle scars.
The sky is dark and frightening,
Something I must fear.
Another days storm,
Bringing me grief.
And as the waves take me farther away,
Farther than I want to go,
Into the world unknown.
My wooden sides tremble in fear.
Just when I feel I might sink,
A familiar light breaks through the darkness.
The glorious lighthouse fearless and strong,
Coming to my aid.
Soothingly tells me I’ve nothing to fear.
I follow the light so heavenly and bold,
Like something from another world.
At last I feel some warmth,
On my cold and worn-out body.
The waves are calming down,
I cannot feel the beating.
All because of the lighthouse
Standing brave and tall.
Finally after time,
My bow touches land,
My stern is soon to follow.
At last one days journey’s ended,
Soon another one to come.
But what do I have to fret?
There’s a lighthouse standing tall!
