Since then I was lucky to have been able to see the show 4 times and especially attend the closing show. I fell in love with the show and of course Bernadette. I have seen many shows but this one hit something inside of me. I was teased many times by my family for seeing it so many times but it didn't matter to me. So I thought I would share my little story. I went into the city i think it was 2 weeks before the show was closing with my sister and boyfriend, and my sister couldn't believe that I saw the show at this time 3 times and still didn't get to meet BP. So we drove in to hang out in the city and see if we could try to meet BP after the 8pm show. We get to the theater and there were people hanging around the stage door so I waited like everyone else and then she came out. I was so excited i actually had tears in my eyes. Well I get the nerve and walk my way threw the crowd and got an autograph and asked for a picture, all of that and my sister cut off our heads in the picture. Thank god for digital camera's, my sister felt so bad and told me that she wasn't going to leave with out me having a picture taken. At that point I didn't care b/c I was so excited to have just seen her and embarassed to go back up to her. But my sister made me go up to her again and ask for another picture and I did and it was the best. I had my chance to talk to her too and I blew it b/c i was to shy. But that whole experience meant the world to me even though I didn't get to talk to her. I have to say when I went to see the last show it was incredible the whole cast was fantastic. I wish it didn't have to close.

I actually got to meet her backstage in May and I momentarily forgot my own name when she asked what it was...so don't feel bad. I was also shaking so much I'm surprised I didn't just fall in a heap on her dressing room floor (though that could have made for an interesting story as well!)
Glad to have you on the board.

I am currently in school in Minneapolis, but I mainly live in South Dakota, and Bernadette never comes anywhere in my side of the hemisphere to perform. I wish she'd come to the midwest sometime. I'd pay any amount...

| posted: 9/15/2004 at 1:04:17 AM ET CurlyQ your post reminded me of the way I felt the first time I saw Gypsy. I had never seen any performance that was so amamzing. The first time I saw it I didn't wait outside for Bernadette but when I went back to NY to see it a few months later I got to meet Bernadette three times. She could not have been nicer. She posed with me twice and signed some things for me. She also reconized me the second time I went to the stage door. I got to meet her again at Broadway Barks. She is an amazing performer and when you meet her and see how kind she is in person it only adds to how much you admire her not only as an actress but as a person. Welcome to the board.

Some of us saw it more than that!! so don't let them rag you, or feel embarrassed! It means you have good and discerning taste.
Also, I'm much older than you and was shy to speak to her too.
I wish I could put my finger on why and what it was, that "something" that was sparked in me too that first time I saw "Gypsy." But I know what you mean. I do know, for me, it was Bernadette's huge and true talent and her professionalism, coupled with her graciousness and genuine kindness. She is above and beyond most other "celebrities."
Welcome to the legion of Fanadettes!!

| posted: 9/15/2004 at 5:54:59 PM ET Don't feel bad about not getting to talk to her, CurlyQ! I met Bernadette in March and was so embarrassed by what happened, I could have just died. But, she was gracious and actually laughed at the situation. Here is my story: I had gone to see the matinee performance of Gypsy and then, because it was snowing terribly, I figured I would go see another Broadway show that evening. I was lucky enough to get tickets to Wicked at the last minute. Well, between the two shows, I went back to my hotel to drop off all the stuff I had purchased at Gypsy (including my ticket, playbill and show program). After Wicked, I decided I wanted to go back to the Shubert Theater to see if I could buy a Gypsy mug. Well, as I was walking past the stage door, people were lined up to wait for Bernadette to come out after the 8pm performance. So, I decided to wait. She came out and it was only then that I realized that I didn't have anything Gypsy for her to sign and the Gypsy "store" was already packed up and put away! I was frantic. The only thing I had with me for her to sign was my Wicked playbill. I handed it to her and her and she turned it over to sign the front (thinking it was a Gypsy playbill) and she, of course, saw it was from Wicked. I quickly had to explain that I had been to the matinee performance and didn't have any of my Gypsy stuff with me. I WAS MORTIFIED! I was sure she wouldn't sign something from another show. But, she just laughed, said that it was OK, turned it over to the back, and signed it! Then, she stayed to take a picture (it was 14 degrees outside and snowing!) and was very kind and didn't seem bothered by it at all. So there you have it. :-) I was, and still am, thoroughly embarrassed by that, but she couldn't have been nicer. That's one of the reasons we all love her, right? :-)

| posted: 9/15/2004 at 9:23:08 PM ET The first time I met her (backstage at AGYG), I talked so fast because I didn't want to take up too much of her time, that I'm surprised she understood what I was saying. LOL Now of course I wish I slowed down and savored the moment. She of course was very kind and gracious to me. I am proud that I got out a coherent, if fast, sentence or two. That was also the first time I was hit by how tiny she is. She was in a silk robe and I'm thinking maybe she didn't have any shoes on (it was just after the matinee performance). I felt like I could pick her up and put her in my pocket.

I said to my sister afterwards that it seemed weird that I felt taller than her, eventually attributing it the sneakers i was wearing...hmmmm lol
