A few weeks ago you had asked us if we had any suggestions for adding features to the site... and this just came to me.

You already have an "articles" section featuring reviews written by fans (or "George," shall we say -- LOL) who have seen Bernadette's concerts and been to the signings. So I was thinking... why not add to that section?

Nearly every week we have people posting at the message board how they went to see Gypsy, and what they thought of it, and their stage door experiences. So I was thinking... what if you were to take some of the posts from here on the boards and add them to the articles section? And then make up a form so people could type up and submit their stories to the "archive"? Maybe add an entire "articles" section dedicated to fan reviews of Gypsy, and their experiences at the stage door? Later on, maybe, when Bernadette's run in the show ends, we could also turn the archived stories into a little scrapbook of fan reviews and experiences, and give the scrapbook to her after her final show. Maybe?

At any rate, just compiling all the stage door experiences and reviews into its own section would be a neat thing, I thought. I think we all love reading them. Especially since, after Gypsy, there's no telling when Bernadette will take to the stage in another musical.

Regis: And look at all this hair. My God. That's a lot of hair. Look at this. How does hair get this way?
Bernadette: Um.. it sort of grew out of my head like this.

Good idea - it'd be nice to collect all the fan experiences from "Gypsy" in one place. If you do decide to do that, Kevin, you might want to make a "Gypsy" index page, where visitors could find links in one place to all the "Gypsy" pages - photos, reviews, stage door meetings, etc.

I really like the scrapbook idea... I'm sure Bernadette would be quite touched just looking through all the comments.

I can create some kind of form like hinted at this week (hopefully) and we can get started

I like the other idea about the huge Gypsy link page, too

I definitely think that's a great idea! Especially if we add letters from fans across the country and around the world who love Bernadette. It would be especially wonderful for fans who live too far from NYC to get to the show. It'd be great for them to know that she is definitely receiving their letters, and great for her to see just how many different fans she has!

At first the whole notion of making a scrapbook for Bernadette sounded great to me. Fans from all over the world would be able to share their experiences at Gypsy and I thought that would be a nice gift. But I think perhaps it may do more harm than good. If say Kevin, or anyone, put together this scrapbook and then signed it "From your fans at www.bernadette-peters.com" she might then be prompted to visit this site to check it out. Now I know people question if she's ever been to this site before or not, and no one really knows if she has, but think about it.

Her coming to this site may be very very hurtful to her. It's true that we discuss wonderful things about her career and what a fantastic actress she is, but we also discuss more personal things that I find inappropriate. For example, her relationship with Steve Martin and other men, her parents' death, her clothing size, whether she's had plastic surgery or not, why she doesn't have kids, where she tends to "hang out", her salary. People have also criticized people she's worked with and is probably very close to. For example, how her official website is run. People who are not fans at all have posted here and have written some very vulgar things that I find hurtful reading. Imagine if she were to read some of that? People have asked for childhood or family photos of her and the age of her husband. As fans I think we are all curious about everything, but there comes a point where people sometimes go too far. If she were to come to this website, she would read these things and I think it would really hurt her feelings. Not to mention also that she may be slightly freaked out by the fact that so many people talk about everything in her life and there are literally a hundred pages full of posts about her. Imagine being in her position and coming to a website entirely dedicated to you where people talk about you 24/7. Not only would I be slightly overwhelmed but I'd be downright scared. As a celebrity, I guess one could expect this but still I just think it would really hurt her. I personally wouldn't want to upset her in anyway.

So yes, the scrapbook idea is wonderful. I believe one was actually made for her run in Annie Get Your Gun. But perhaps if one is put together we could exclude the fact that this website exists and say instead "From your fans." It is true that most likely she knows about this site already, has been here, or can easily find out about this website also. Kevin, I am in no way trying to shadow your wonderful job as a webmaster and this great website in anyway. The people who post here are great and so much more mature and kind than other websites and this is why I come here a lot. But as a fan, I would try and keep Bernadette's best interest at heart. Feel free to disagree and respond. I want to know other people's opinions on this.

thats actually a really good point, megan. I don't really know what to think now because I still really want her to know about us as her totally dedicated fans and some of the stuff we write i think she'd find cute. like when some on says "remember this is on whatever channel tomorrow!" and everyone's like "phew, thank god you told me, i could have missed it!". If perhaps she just looked at certain pages - hey kevin - could you somehow delete offensive messages directed at Bernadette? Then she could read it all but she wouldn't be hurt. I care very much about her feelings and I wouldn't want to think I'd offended her in any way.

Megan, I agree with you 100% on leaving out the website.
I think it is in Bernadette's best interest. Like you said she probably does know about the site and maybe even been here. I don't think any of the people that post here in anyway would want to hurt her feelings at all. Majority of these people are just extremely dedicated fans. Just my opinion on the matter...

OK, since you asked for other opinions and as my job is often to play devil's advocate, I will do a little of that here.

I'd give Ms. Peters a little more credit. Geez, she's 55 years old, she's been in all parts of a very tough business for 42 of those years and has **survived** with all her integrity intact. Could the catty, petty stuff that was out there since she got the role, during the previews and when she was sick be much worse??

When Regis asked her about it, that he was worried about her, she just said she was too busy working to worry about it. I don't think for a minute she was immune to what was being said, but she's no wuss. And she's too nice and well-mannered to say something negative. No, she just did her job brilliantly -- and went on the Tonys stage and kicked a** (success as the best revenge).

I think she'd love a keepsake as is suggested. And what else would a Web site named bernadette-peters.com be but for fans who adore her, are interested in her and want to discuss her career, etc. I don't think it would surprise her. I also think she's a little too busy to spend great amounts of time online, wading through pages and pages of chat. And she's probably not as obsessed with herself that she'd want to read all that. Some people (Say, that would be a great title for a song!) are gonna love her, some people won't; that's what makes the world interesting. Is what's on this site all that much of an embarrassment? Just say, hey, I'm a Peters fanatic and I'm proud!!

I think she's got more backbone than that, and she's got a good head on her shoulders. She's solid, she's good people, and that's big part of why she's so great and she's still working and still beloved. She also is respectful and appreciative of her fans, and I think she'd love such a scrapbook.

Well, you did ask for it....

In all fairness, some of us have been saying for a VERY LONG TIME that people shouldn't be discussing certain aspects of Bernadette's life in general; even if she doesn't read this board.

In the past, I and a few other members on this board have requested that people not discuss Bernadette's dress size, salary, personal relationships wih men (not saying don't mention those men, but don't ask how things ended with them), why she doesn't have children, her parents' deaths!

Now everyone wants her to come and read the message board, but all of her dirty laundrey (pardon the expression) has been aired.

Kevin should not have to go and delete posts or threads that might be offensive, because those offensive messages should not have been posted to begin with!

I think a scrapbook is a great idea. I don't think messages should be taken directly from the board or its fan section because some people may not want messages they posted in the past and forgot what they wrote given to Bernadette. I like the idea of having a new section with a form or something where fans can post what they are feeling now, about Gypsy and whatever.

I agree with Christine. Bernadette is a person just like us. She has feelings, and she deserves privacy and respect.

"...Bernadette's dress size, salary, personal relationships wih men, why she doesn't have children, her parents' deaths!..."
I've not seen much of that on this site, but then I've only been here a few months. (tho, I admit, when someone said Steve Martin took in a Gypsy performance, I was glad to hear it and thought that was nice.)
Who the heck knows the truth of any of that stuff anyway? I'd only care and believe it from a legit magazine with direct quotes or TV interview anyway. Speculation doesn't interest me. I'm not big on the gossipy stuff on anyone really (don't watch ET or the like). It seems like Bernadette is above all that fray.
But I could read and think about her performances all day long...and a few days this summer, I did!
