Ok, so I'm leaving 2morrow afternoon for CA, and I'm just wondering cuz the last time I've traveled by plane was the summer b4 9/11. So I'm not sure on the protocols regarding luggage.

Is it okay to lock the luggage?- or will they break it so they can inspect it? (because I remember in the early days post 9/11 I heard on the news that not to lock the luggage or else they will break it in order to inspect it) .....so could anyone help me out w/ this?

Thanks so much!

Take care,
Stacy

I've heard that too - that you shouldn't lock your luggage. I would not lock it and ask the ticket agent. You can always lock it after the agent tells you its okay. Have a good trip.

Don't lock your luggage. It's just easier to not have to deal with unlocking everything while you are checking your bags. Sometimes if there is a lock on your bag, they will open it and inspect it right the and there! I wouldn't worry too much about anything happening to your suitcases. They are kept under a close watch.

I have locks for my luggage, but I mainly have it so I can lock my luggage while it's in the hotel room. I don't trust the maids (especially in a foreign country, and I had gotten the locks for when I went to Italy). I think you would be okay locking your luggage. It goes through a metal detector anyway.

I just went to NY 2 weeks ago. (saw GYPSY and loved it) and they actually searched my checked suitcase. They put a little sticker on the airline tag and then put a little piece of paper in my luggage saying that they had searched it. So, I don't think I would bother with the lock if you are checking it.
