I just thought the entire performance was very light-hearted. The cast (especially Bernadette and John) were just having so much fun.

I noticed that Tammy changed the way she delivers some of her lines (particularly in the end). I think it's great that she's so comfortable with her role now, and is not afraid to try some of her own stuff. It's always fun when you can tell the cast is just having a great time up there.

They better be careful and not have too much fun or Arthur might come and yell at them. LOL Did anyone else hear his interview on Fresh Air when he talked about scolding Merman and Klugman for their onstage antics. Of course they were apparently trying to crack each other up which he felt was disrespectful to the audience.

Laurents was also interviewed on yesterday's MORNING EDITION on npr. He's talking about the reissue of the original Anyone Can Whistle. You can hear it on npr.org. I don't think he'd be Columbia's first choice for doing PR for this album though.

LOL! I don't know about that....its pretty well known that Bernadtte likes to enjoy herself on stage...and take some liberties with certain things. She never takes it to the point where she disrupts the show...she only makes it better when she does stuff like that LOL
She and Arthur are also good friends as well. You've got to remeber....when Ethel was Rose..they were essentially creating the show right there infront of the audience who were seeing Gypsy for the first time...it was probably a little more stressful at that point.I mean telling your cast " you're not allowed to have fun" is not something you'd want to hear from someone like Arthur LOL

LOL I can just picture this old man yelling at them.

Theatre today is different, and the audiences are different and more accepting of little things like the star of the show goofing around a little bit. Then again, you never can tell. Arthur might be stuck in an era of strict theatre.

I think he said this was something like 6 months into the run or so and Merman and Klugman were getting bored so were playing around and instead of working for the audience's pleasure were doing things for themselves.

I think it's great when actors can take unexpected things that happen onstage and can make it work within their characterization.

I just wanted to say that i am so very happy that you had the perfect time while you were in NY and that I agree with you that Kate and Bernadette are the (OK I am going to attempt to use some slag here, I hope I use the right words) BOMB DIGGITY.

dededarlin-

That is so incredibly cool that you got to go backstage!!! You mentioned that Bernadette gave you advice on wanting to be an actress and I was wondering if you would be ok sharing what she said? If you want to keep it for yourself that's cool too but as someone else who's interested in acting I was just curious. Either way it's really cool that you got to meet her!
