I NEVER WANT TO LEAVE NEW YORK!! oh my gosh yall gypsy is sooo wonderful....yall told me to write about it so i am..... so ofcourse the show was absolutly amazing...it was so weird because i thought i would be so star struck just seeing bernadette on stage but then she totally captivated me and i was no longer watching b.p., but i was really watching Rose. SHE IS SO AMAZING! and then wow KATE IS THE COOLEST PERSON ALIVE! she was sooooo wonderful...the funniest thing in the show..it was great! ok, so after the show, i go backstage. and then the guard tells me where to stand to wait for kate and i am on the freaking stage of the Shubert. it may not seem that great to yall, but to me it was a dream. i wanted to start singing right there...haha i had to contain myself. and then kate comes..and yall she is so amazing so nice so wonderful...so i am talking to her and then we get to go to bernadette's dressing room. OMG SHE IS SO TINY. she was really shy adn i felt kindda bad bc she seemed so tired...but she was sooo nice and sweet. she asked me if i was an actress and i told her i wanted to be and she gave me advice. you know whats weird? i thought i would be so star struck just to hear that voice that i had listened to for so many years..but i felt like i knew her..it was so incredible. she is so wonderful. so she signed my beloved ITW liberetto and took a pic with me and oh she is so gorgeous. i was all blotchy from nervousness, but ofcourse she looked perfect!lol! so to end this, KATE BUDDEKE AND BERNADETTE PETERS ARE THE BEST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD AND DREAMS REALLY DO COME TRUE..AFTER THIS, THERE IS NO WAY I AM GIVING UP ON MINE! LOL! Awwww I'm glad you had such a great time at the show Dededarlin!

Bernadette definitely seemed to be in a silly mood. Did you notice during "Small World" her coat fell on the floor and John picked it up for her. Then she rocked her coat (twice) when she sang the word "children" like it was a baby...which got both her and John giggling a little bit. John did the same thing a minute later in the song LOL It was very cute! It looked as if Bernadette had to turn away and not look at him because she'd loose it and start laughing hysterically if she did.

Everyone also got quite a laugh during Little Lamb while the lamb was licking Tammy's face like there was no tomorrow Haha

Oh, congrats on the meeting with Bernadette, hon! That's really terrific. Especially since you want to be an actress. It sounds like you had a fabulous time at the show. -- Makes me feel beyond excited for October, when I get to go!
Hee! All my life I've waited to hear this woman sing, and from how you guys have described it here... I suppose I'm in for a treat.

Grrr... October's seems way far away.

That's so cool! How did you get to go backstage?

BwdyBaby, the thing with "Small World" sounds funny, I wish I had been there that night! But how did her coat fall on the floor? Isn't she wearing her coat during that song? LOL, was it greased up or something?!

I was there last night, too. It seemed like a night of minor mishaps for Bernadette...all of which she handled with aplomb, of course.

Just before Herbie returned to the dressing room for the final break-up, Bernadette dropped a page or two of the sheet music. She had to wait for an appropriate moment to pick it up. Obviously she ad to retrieve it. No music...no strip.

Then during "Rose's Turn," when she removes her sweater, the sweater snagged on her wig ever so slightly. I held my breath hoping it would not come loose but, not to worry. Bernadette didn't miss a beat...just gave her hair a quick smoothing and all was well.

It was a great show last night...each number received thunderous applause. At least in my viewings, I don't think Bernadette was ever better in "Everything's Coming Up Roses."

Glad you got to have such a special evening, dededarlin.

Thursday night---during the part of the show when Mr. Gransinger decides he likes the act and sends Rose and Herbie up to sign the contracts---as Bernadette and John Dossett were walking off the stage Bernadette yells something to Mr. Gransinger like "you're not going to regret this" or something of that nature---all the stage lights cut out and Bernadette was left speaking in the total darkness. SHe stopped for a moment....and then continued speaking her lines in the dark. Suddenly a spot light hit her and she looked surprised for a moment. SHe had already delivered the line and was in the process of stepping off the stage. Before doing so she pointed towards the spotlight and said "oh.......there you are!" and then stepped into the wings.
I am pretty sure that was ad-libbed. Since we're talking about bloopers I thought you might like that one.

One more---
when she was doing a concert in Fort Worth about a year and a half ago, the microphone sank down into the mike stand during the middle of You Can't Get A Man WIth A Gun. THe audience gasped and then giggled nervously. Bernadette laughed, restored the microphone to the appropriate height, giggled, cleared her throat, and belted out the next line in the song "for pistol packin' mama's...oh you can't get a man with a GUN!" as if nothing had happened. She never lets little hang ups get to her. SHe always handles technical difficulties beautifully!

Oh, I forgot to mention...there is an article on Tammy in the new Playbills.

Oh, and as far as the lamb...the lamb they currently have seems a little more fidgety then the others I have seen. The licking that they all do is pretty much just instinct and is what they do when being away from their mom at such a young age. The lamb last night though...wow, it looked like it was going to eat Tammy's face LOL I've noticed that Tammy seems to bond very well with all the animals. They all seem very comfortable with her. I've also noticed that when Coco is passed around she will squirm but when she is in Tammy's arms she'll stop squirming and be very content. Shows how professional Tammy is that she won't miss a beat while trying to hold a fidgety animal or an animal that is licking her face while singing and acting at the same time...without laughing (especially when the audience is!)

LOL the little mishaps like that are so fun to read!

The night I saw the show, during the plate tossing scene, there were a couple times when Bernadette VERY narrowly missed catching the plates! At one point the plate came flying at Bernadette so fast that she had to catch with both hands and hold it against her body until she stablized herself!

Another time, when Bernadette is helping the little girl who plays Baby June into her ballet shoes, she was rushing so much that the shoe slipped out of her hand and flew a foot or so backstage. I don't think most of the audience noticed because they were preoccupied with watching what was going on with the newsboys, but luckily someone kicked the shoe back in time for her entrance!

I'll try to think of more, but it's hard to remember since I was so mesmerized!

Bernadette is the one throwing the plates to Tammy and John,as far I remember, they don't throw them at her. She walks over to the trunk, takes them out and then throws one to John, one to Tammy and then one to each of them at ther same time. Please correct me if I am wrong though

BTW, I started a thread about onstage mishaps in the "Theatre Chat" section of this board a few months ago

That's pretty much how the scene ends. Sometimes its a little early and sometimes not. But it really wasn't anything too different

I just thought the entire performance was very light-hearted. The cast (especially Bernadette and John) were just having so much fun.

I noticed that Tammy changed the way she delivers some of her lines (particularly in the end). I think it's great that she's so comfortable with her role now, and is not afraid to try some of her own stuff. It's always fun when you can tell the cast is just having a great time up there.
