Is the choreography they used for the Tony's the same as they use in the show??

I mean...Bernadette is Bernadette so she has a little more liberty then most performers on Boadway to do what what she feels at that moment. I'm not saying she can totally add a whole new dance routine, but she can add a hand gesture here or there. A few things were different for the TONY performance..but not too significant. Some things I think sorta needed to be changed a little bit or atleast played in a way that accentuated them because of the cameras. One of the things I think we all love about seeing her perform is that you're never going to get the exact same performance each and everytime you see her perform.

How about the humming when Peters moved to the wall. Is that something she's added or only did at the Tonys? Also does anyone know if the production numbers are conducted by each show's regular conductor or the Tony's conductor. Hairspray's number seemed awfully frantic and poor Harvey couldn't even keep up with his part.

| posted: 6/15/2003 at 8:00:05 PM ET I heard the humming too. I don't think that is usually done at the theater. I'm wondering if it was unintentional and she just got caught up in the moment. Not that there was anything wrong with it.
I believe everything is conducted by the Tony conductor which is why Tony performances can be a little strange.

Registered: 5/13/2003 | posted: 6/15/2003 at 9:16:09 PM ET I just downloaded a version of Rose's Turn by Angela Lansbury and noticed a difference in the lyrics between her version and BP's when it gets to the part where they are singing, "momma's getting hot, momma's going strong, momma's moving on, "...etc etc. Is the order supposed to be the same each time or do u think it is open to emotional adlibbing?

| posted: 6/15/2003 at 9:27:08 PM ET I'm not sure but realize the Rose's Turn on the Tonys is not the Rose's Turn done at the Shubert. It had to be cut down to fit in the time constraints and maybe they had to change some lyrics within the "Momma's" so it all made sense. I'm not sure if you are comparing the Tony telecast to Landsbury's or your recollection from seeing Bernadette in the show. The easiest thing is to probably wait for the cast recording for this production to come out and then compare. Or find someone who has a really good memory or can take notes when they go to the theater.
