I know how you feel. I have tickets for June 12, and I'm coming from Iowa! I will be so heartbroken if Bernadette doesn't perform that night. This may be my only chance to ever see her perform.

I would understand your disappointment if you came all the way to the city and she wasn't in the show that night, however that's a risk you take when purchasing tickets to LIVE theatre. Because her name is over the title you could atleast get a refund if she was out sick( eventhough I think you'd rather see her than get the money back)

Its just sad how some people on other boards do not believe that she is really sick or that she only cares about giving 100% for the critics. No one seems to understand quite how demanding a role Mama Rose is....and on top of that rehearsals, interviews, photo shoots....ect. She was at the theatre until very late Wednesday night doing interviews, was at the theatre well before curtain on Thursday and then had the opening night party and performed the following night.....I think that'd just about ware out anybody! She's been trained by pretty much the best the business has to offer. She KNOWS how to sing when she is sick, tired or her voice is a little stressed so she won't cause further damage and she definitely has great technique but this is a role in which she is onstage for about 90% of the show and half of the time she is screaming her lines and singing her songs at full force so its really no wonder she and all the other Rose's to grace Broadway have had these sorts of problems. I'm more concerend for her well being then whether or not she'll be at the show when I have tickets.

There's no doubt that one of the reasons Bernadette pushes herself so hard is for her fans...even if it means performing when she can hardly speak. I think her fans owe it to her to give her a break. If she's sick, she's sick. Besdies, for all you know you may really enjoy Maureen and become a fan of her's for life too!

I know most of you on here would probably agree with that and you guys really weren't the main reason for half of what I posted...here's hoping some ATC posters see this.

It's true. I would rather Bernadette take a day or 2 off here and there if she feels she is straining herself too much.
She knows what is best for her, and she does it for her fans as well (not just herself). She hates dissapointing people as it is; she probably feels really bad when she has to call out sick. But I think most people would rather see an understudy (who is a fabulous singer in her own right) perform the role in tip-top shape, than a headliner who is not feeling well.

I know I should keep my mouth shut because I don't have to travel far to see a Broadway show, or spend a lot of money for an entire weekend...but even if I did, and something like that happened, I would try and make the best of it.

I wouldn't worry though (if I were you). I think her getting sick lately is due to the stress of a newly opened, not yet Tony-voted show. You have time for Bernadette to get well.....lol although, you both picked a heck of a time to go. One of you is going right after the Tony's, and the other right before Broadway Barks. Hello! Bernadette gets very busy around those times; which causes stress.

I know what you mean about some of those ATC people. Some of them are just so full of themselves and have such high opinions of their opinions that they really couldn't believe or accept the fact that critics saw the performance we all knew Peters could deliver as Rose. Now they don't know how to respond since it wasn't just Brantley who raved. New York Mag and the New Yorker, Newsweek, AP, Nightingale from the London Times, Wash. Post and more all validated Peters performance and her abilities.

I also think that you guys (Bwaybaby and Christine-NYC) have sort of a different perspective than a lot of us. I completely understand and believe that Bernadette really is sick- I have no doubt she would intentionally disappoint her fans. But when you don't live in the NYC area, and you come to New York specifically to see Bernadette perform in Gypsy (as many of us have to), then it is a disappointment when you can't get to see your favorite performer in the role, especially when you have SO been looking forward to it.
I don't think that anyway (at least on this board- the ATC board is a completely different story) is ANGRY at Bernadette, or doubts her reason for not being there. But if you have tickets and she isn't there, you can go the next week, or whenever she gets back. Some of us aren't so lucky. So just remember that all (or most) of the people who post on this board are really big fans, but not everyone is lucky enough to see Gypsy every two weeks or so.

If you re-read my post you'll see how I stated "I would understand your disappointment if you came all the way to the city and she wasn't in the show that night..." I've been in that sort of situation before and yeah it sucks, but when there's not much you can do about it then why worry yourself to death. I spent a lot of money on tickets to see Liza and Joel perform this winter and the day of the concert( that was about 2 hours from me) we got a HUGE snow storm so we coudln't go.I was disappointed but I was not about to risk my life to go to a concert and didn't want to get stranded anywhere either. I know its not EXACTLY the same thing, but you see, I can sympathize with you.
And if you re-read my previous post you'll see I ended with "I know most of you on here would probably agree with that and you guys really weren't the main reason for half of what I posted...here's hoping some ATC posters see this".

I have also gone to events when the main person I wanted to see wasn't there, and it does stink...so I do understand where you guys are coming from.

I also said, "I know I should keep my mouth shut because I don't have to travel far to see a Broadway show, or spend a lot of money for an entire weekend" , so I do realize that I am not in the same position as many of you here. I do not doubt, by any means, that the people on this board want nothing but perfect health for Bernadette.
