So good to see a superbly written article like this one right before the show opens. I have a feeling that Bernadette will only et better and better in the role, as she always does--one of the reasons I have stayed FAR away from the show during the difficult preview period (which they inevitably are). I have never for a moment felt that Bernadette Peters "wrong" for this role. Anyone who read the original memoir GYPSY could see this was casting genius--the real Rose was much more like Bernadette Peters than Miss Merman. It will be interesting to see the reviews. Hopefully they will be constructive and try to avoid too many comparisons with the previous actresses who have played the role.

From: Fla | posted: 4/30/2003 at 11:49:23 PM ET Just though I'd share a cute story I read this article last week (when it first appeared on the NY Times website). But today, my AP English teacher from last year walked into my 3rd period and handed me a newspaper. I looked at it, and it was the Arts and Leisure section, and he was like "I saw this this weekend and I thought of you." I just thought it was funny that my English teacher knows about my Bernadette "obsession" enough to bring me the NY Times It totally made my day.
