Well, I just came back from seeing Gypsy. Bernadette was out sick ( poor thing) but her understudy, Maureen Moore, was fantastic! This is my second time seeing Gypsy and they made some GREAT changes. I apologize if these are repetitive. Rose now wears really nice colored costumes. She has a nice purple and a nice emerald green one. I've also noticed how the lamb has grown bigger, lol. During the seen in the hotel room, there are now clothes lines hanging from door to door - they almost make it seem as if there is a wall, and there is some more furniture. There used to be a lot of view of what looked like the backstage of a theatre. Now, there are huge "murals" I don't know the proper name, but one of them is outside the hotel and it is a view of NYC. Another one is like a sunset and it adds a nice touch. The only thing I didn't like about the set change, was the train station. It doesn't look anything like a train station anymore. Before, there was a "dark tunnel" and tracks. Now there is just that "sunset mural" in the background and a wagon or two.

All of the actors have really grown over the past month and are very comfortable in their roles. They really look like they are enjoying themselves. Tammy Blanchard (Gypsy) has really adapted to her role. The 3 strippers (Mazzeppa, Tessie, and Electra) are still hilarious. John Dossett (Herbie) was very dramatic when he left Rose this time, it was wonderful! It really made you feel for him! I also loved how Tammy slammed a chair down in her dressing room when she was arguing with Rose in the last couple of scenes. I'm assuming that Bernadette and Maureen share the same type of choreography and body language as each other because of them watching each other. If this is true, both women have really fullfilled Mamma Rose. She is now more sexual with Herbie (the dancing is closer, longer kiss, hugging, moving the hips, etc.) The emotion displayed in the finale was OUTSTANDING! Between the tears as Rose says "mamma" and the bold display as she announces to the world what she could have done, it was all phenomenol.

Bernadette, feel better! We love you!

That's a great update

I feel so bad for Bernadette, being sick so close to opening night. It's got to be driving her crazy being sick

I can't wait to see the show!

I saw the show Monday, and I thought it was great! I was a little disappointed when I found out Ms. Peters wasn't going to be there, however, Maureen Moore did a wonderful job as Rose! When I got to the theater, there was a line of people waiting to return their tickets, but I thought, hey, I'm only in the city for one night, and I won't get the chance to see a show if I return my tickets. Besides, I wanted to see the show anyway, and I'm glad I did. I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

There are some talented little kids in Gypsy! It always amazes me to see kids that young performing on Broadway...

I'm glad that you stayed and had a wonderful time BwayLover.
I always feel so bad for the understudy when a bunch of people start returning tickets. I'm sure they don't take it personally (especially at those prices), but it's still a shame.
Maureen Moore is a very talented woman; she just doesn't have the ticket-selling power that Bernadette Peters has.
