Bernadette looked stunning in a floor-length purple gown, accessorized by a diamond bracelet and earrings (reminds me of the stars of the past, highly glamorous and elegant). (See photos 28, 29, 35 in the Playbill article)

She accepted her honorary Tony Award (Stevenson Award) off-camera and in a brief clip, was seen to say that Broadway Cares and Broadway Barks were a good combination. (??)

She introduced the "Follies" musical number, "Buddy's Blues", with Danny Burstein with a brief summary of the musical "and here is my Buddy".

She was seated on the aisle, pretty close to the front, next to a gentleman I did not recognize.

Playbill article, Photo Call. (red carpet arrivals)

photos of Bernadette on-stage (introducing Follies and probably accepting her Tony Award)

And these comments from the "New Yorker" blogger:

"...while the cast of that other Jesus show, “Godspell,” gleefully leaped into the crowd, causing poor Andrew Garfield’s mouth to unfasten in terror and Bernadette Peters to clap along with a single-mindedness that said: “Don’t you altar boys dare pull me out my seat.” While I’m translating Bernadette Peters’s innermost thoughts, here was the subtext of her intro for “Follies”: “Ladies and gentlemen, please enjoy this number from a musical in which I gave a definitive interpretation of one of Sondheim’s most complex heroines but was not nominated for a Tony. But that’s a-O.K., because instead I got an honorary award for my work with dogs.”

Thanks for sharing, Jean! I was so disappointed that they didn't broadcast Bernadette's award acceptance in its entirety. Does anyone know if there's any way to see it online?

The gown was by Donna Karan; it was a "mermaid gown. The fit was flattering and the color was regal" according to Stylelite.

You know what is frustrating? The fact that Bernadette's picture is on the Acceptance Speeches teaser at the top of the homepage, but then her speech is not included!

Here is a link where you can provide feedback on the site and the show. Perhaps if enough of us ask for Bernadette's speech they will post it.

The ENTIRE acceptance speech! Finally

I think it deserves its own thread too!

"Let's admit one thing right upfront: With the possible exception of Bernadette Peters, not everyone stays young and cute forever." (NYPost 2/2/05)
