So I literally bumped into her last night! I was at Elaine Paige's concert at the Allen Room (she was absolutely fantastic, btw) and of course had a small glimmer of hope that maybe BP would be there. Ron Raines (Ben in Follies) was sitting right in front of me and there were a few other B'way people spotted. Next thing I know, I see this big head of read curly hair bopping into the room and it's Bernadette, Patty in tow, along with her publicist, Judy Katz. There was a little buzz in the audience b/c obviously people were excited she was there. She really was totally unassuming and one of the first people on her feet when Elaine ended the show (and for all 3 of her ovations.

After the show I got to the elevators and realized my phone was missing, so with no luck after searching the ladies room, I headed back to the theatre. Most people had emptied out but I explained to the usher that I lost my phone so he let me back in. I went through the first set of double doors and then as I was about to go through the 2nd set of doors, Bernadette came through and we just bumped into one another and did the whole "Oh my gosh I'm so sorry" "No, I'm sorry!" thing and then we were each on our merry way! So, needless to say, I am SO glad I lost (but then found!) my cell

And I must say that her hair is even more spectacular up close!

Very cool! And so nice that Bernadette was there to support Elaine.

I think if I ever accidently bumped into Bernadette--literally or figuratively--I would completely lose my composure. I'd probably end up asking for an autograph or picture. LOL.

I was there and...man, her hair was AMAZING that night. They should either invent another word for Bernadette's hair, or else regular people should have to stop saying that they have "hair". Because, just...no. What is on her head is not that scraggly stuff everyone else has. I was close enough to touch her at one point when I was leaving the theater, but I managed to restrain myself from even looking directly at her face. As your encounter proves, I don't think she would have been at all rude to anyone, but I just also had this sense that she was more in "private mode". I find myself feeling a little bad that she can't just go to something like that without HAVING to have people in attendance to basically keep her safe from the hordes, and I don't really want to be part of her feeling mobbed.

How lucky you both are to bump into Bernadette Peters. I am so jealous, lol.

Also what a fantastic venue The Allen Room is - what a view!

So good to see Bernadette out in support of her friend Elaine.

I should clarify..I was close enough to touch her, but not only did I avoid eye contact, I kept my hands to myself too, so I did not actually touch her. I think I was clutching my heart LOL.

Wow ripley123 that is amazing!

Elaine Paige has put a pic on twitter - is this Bernadette on the left hand side or someone with similar hair? Lol

PS Just want to also say a "big thank you" to you ripley123 for all your inside info on the acting process - it's always facinating when you share your stories and we can get an idea of what commitment it takes to take on an acting role.

x

No, none of those are Bernadette, I don't think. She was farther to house left, dressed all in black, hair down and very curly, shiny red. Patty was on her right, very close.

Thanks DavidJ. I wouldn't want to give anyone the idea that I'm an authority on what it's like for everyone, or for Bernadette, or even for me because I think I find out new things every time I get something new to work on! I think it's very individual and there are a lot of different approaches that can all be effective.

Ripley123, you never come across that way, it's just great hearing your take on taking on a role and the processes you go through to get it right for you.
