Bernadette was finally in a SMASH commercial, about 2 hours and 45 minutes into the globes. It was a quick peek, but I will take it!

Very cool! I'm looking forward to her episode(s).

Was she wearing Mama Rose attire or something more modern?

I wish I would've watched it, too. I've been looking for a video of the commercial, but haven't been able to find one. I guess we'll see the full episode soon enough.

Thanks for posting, Jennifer!

I'm really surprised they didn't show more of Bernadette in this. I mean, the show is about the making of a Broadway musical and she's a Broadway legend. To me, Bernadette is musical theater.

I know someone who said they hated musical theatre. But, they had never heard of Bernadette Peters. I wanted to say, how can you even know enough about musical theatre to form an opinion about it when Bernadette Peters has never entered your consciousness? I mean, I say I hate rap and urban dance music, but if you ask me if I have HEARD of Eminem, Kanye West, 50cent, Jay-Z, etc., well, duh, of course I have. Bernadette Peters is the main American musical theatre female performer, certainly of the last 25 years, and she was involved before that point as well...I'm preaching to the choir though so will shut up now

I completely agree with you, ripley. Someone who hasn't at least heard of Bernadette Peters probably has not spent too much time in the musical theater world.

I'm not surprised there was not more of Bernadette in the promo. I have a feeling she does not have a major role in "Smash" Remember all the excitement about her being in "Ugly Betty"? It was so disappointing; she only was on briefly.I HOPE this is more of a recurring role!
Before I went to NYC in early Dec..I was chatting with the check-out boy who had never heard of Bernadette. I tried again with her movies with Steve Martin and he said "WHO?" It is hard to believe, but a former English teacher said:"There are many people in the world who will never hear of Shakespeare, but they will not die UNHAPPY"! Makes one think, doesn't it? Aren't YOU happy you have gotten to know Bernadette!?

Since Bernadette gets a musical number in SMASH, maybe her role will be a bit bigger than what she had in UGLY BETTY. I hope that's the case, anyway.

I just can't get over how little they showed Bernadette in the promo; I don't even think it amounted to a full second. She's not a main character in the show, but it seems like her appearance could've lasted a little longer. Had I not known to look for her, I probably wouldn't have even realized she was in the commercial.

Anyhow, to answer your question, Patty, yes, I am very happy that I've gotten to know Bernadette's work as a singer and actress.

Hi all

Am at work and I can't remember my password so posting anon.

Lets just wait and see how big a part Bernadette has on the show. I loved the little clip of her going "shhhhhsh"

It may be a nanosecond but its interesting that Bernadette was shown in the clip but neither Nick Jonas nor Uma Thurman
were shown and they have also been filming guest roles.

I think its a compliment to Bernadette that she was shown and maybe a sign her role will be more important than first thought.

And like Patty and AMH i am happy i also got to know and love Bernadette

I think that Bernadette will be on and off Smash as long as the Megan Hilty character is involved, because she is supposed to be her mother. The 1st episode is available for free download off of iTunes and maybe other places too, legally. We meet Katharine McPhee's character's parents and see their relationship with her, and Megan Hilty calls her mom, who we do not meet yet, but you can tell from the one side of the conversation that Mom-Bernadette was not particularly impressed with daughter-Megan's piddly callback.

I am so glad Bernadette seems to have been able to leave behind her cuddly fluffball roles. I loved her in movies like The Jerk and Bobbie's Girl, and Slaves, but for her as an actress it just has got to be so much more rewarding and juicy to get to explore being cold, conniving, even violent (I understand she had to smack her daughter around in Coming Up Roses...I hope that shows to the general public some day!!).

Here is a SMASH clip with Nick Jonas:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pi4cyDkYC8g

@0:26. He is arm and arm with Anjelica Huston.

I think they don't gear the ads to musical theater people because they know we will more than likely watch. I think they are gearing them toward the typical american. This is why they say "The Monday after the Superbowl".

I also like how Megan says "I'm not a doctor, but I watched ER."

As for not mentioning Bernadette the show hasn't mentioned any of its guest stars and I do hope it is a recurring role for her.
