Registered: 6/7/2003 | posted: 5/7/2011 at 11:39:44 PM ET I was at the May 7 performance; considering that it was the first it was quite good (and I'm sure it will get even better). The sets are fabulous, as are the costumes (it's easy to see where the money went).
Just a few words about the performers: Linda Lavin, Elaine Paige, Terri White (of the Follies "girls") were especially good, with Lavin being rather spectacular.
Of the 4 principals, all were very good. This is a good role for Bernadette, but if you're used to seeing her as a light romantic comic, you are in for quite a ride! She dances, in the "Whos That Woman" number, quite like the Bernadette of the 1970s. Also, she sings a song in a higher key (?) than I'm used to hearing, or else she's in her "head" voice: really something! Of course she looks great, the 2 costumes suit her. (I like the idea that she does not have to carry the entire show, and that there are other principal roles.)
All in all I had a great time, this is the best Follies I've seen.
(Oh, Richard Chamberlain was sitting next to me, very quiet, but very appreciative of the show, applauded much, laughed, and stood up when the principals came out at curtain call.)

| posted: 5/8/2011 at 12:33:40 AM ET Thank you, Jean, for reporting back. I am so excited about this. I only wish I didn't have to wait until June to see it.
Hoping for more reports from other board members. Keep 'em coming!

Registered: 6/7/2003 | posted: 5/10/2011 at 6:50:12 AM ET By the way, if you attend the performance at the Kennedy Center, be sure to pick up the Kennedy Center magazine (the one with the "Follies" logo on the cover) it has a nice article on Follies on the first few pages with a lovely picture of the 4 principals. (I scanned the photo and sent it to the photos section on this site, not sure if/when it will be posted.)
(Just to be clear, this is not the Playbill, it is the larger magazine.)

Registered: 6/7/2003 | posted: 5/22/2011 at 5:46:15 PM ET According to sightings at the opening on May 21, there were critics from the NY Times and talkinbroadway, plus a bunch of others I am not familiar with (except that that they are critics). I am sure the Washington Post will review. So, you can start looking for reviews tomorrow, although I would not be surprised if some reviews are on the internet later tonight.
