| posted: 3/3/2011 at 12:15:21 AM ET I check here quite regularly but as you said, seldom a new post. I know Jean tries to keep us up to date with goings on and I try a bit too. I wish more people who go to her concerts and things would post. I always like to hear a good concert report.
Hopefully when Follies starts up in May, we'll get more traffic on the board.

From: CA | posted: 3/3/2011 at 12:51:48 PM ET I check this site occasionally. I just posted under "fan experiences" about a concert I went to in San Bernardino, CA. I didn't write much just about the set list and I posted some articles about other concerts. I too would like to hear about recent concerts others have seen.

Registered: 5/3/2002 | posted: 3/12/2011 at 11:27:09 PM ET Ah, the good years. When were they? Circa 2002-2007, approximately? This website's big mistake, from the beginning, was permitting anonymous posts and that pretty much ruined everything. But, of course, to be honest, it wouldn't really have mattered ultimately, because the whole original internet thing is dying anyway. Websites dedicated to specific subjects are withering away and the message boards of general interest/news media sites are a hopeless cesspool at this point. So much for the myth of free speech versus the reality of how it actually works. It costs too much to have 24 hour a day, human monitoring, but without it nothing works. So most people have migrated to the so-called social media stuff like facebook, twitter, etc. Unfortunately, in my opinion, they're not very effective in focusing discussion. So this format is dead, but there's no genuinely viable replacement. The real culprit? Probably that the internet developed in an era when the dominant ideology was commercialized/free market/corporate/libertarian and/or neo-liberal thought. (Hate those white male, tech people with their Ayn Rand obsessions and their cult of the market and their crypto-Social Darwinism - yes, I'm looking at Wikipedia.)
Anyway, Frank Rich has his last New York Times column today (sadly). It's great,of course. But, check out what he invokes in his very last paragraph. I love it!

From: CA | posted: 3/15/2011 at 12:25:14 PM ET I am a new BP fan and I am very grateful for everyone that has posted any info on this site. I have read many of the articles, bios, and concert reviews that have been posted from many years ago. Thank you

Registered: 5/3/2002 | posted: 3/19/2011 at 12:32:23 AM ET You know what really screwed everything up worse than anything else? It was when about 3 or 4 years ago (don't remember when exactly) that certain people not only left the site and stopped posting regularly, but had the audacity and the nerve to go back and delete some (many) of their previous posts. Not particularly embarrassing ones or anything, and not even all of them, but just random recent ones. Thus rendering the conversations that they were a part of completely meaningless. It was a total slap-in-the-face to the remaining members and pretty much caused the whole enterprise to end up a big, ineffectual nothing. I don't know if it was malicious or just thoughtless, but it ended up ruining everything and putting the final nail in the coffin ultimately. God, I hated that. Because why bother to talk to people if they're just going to delete their comments a week later. Why was that ever allowed? I know that caused me to eventually not really care anymore.

From: Arizona | posted: 3/26/2011 at 5:36:57 PM ET Damn, Karen. You are an intellectual and literary genius WHO KNEW!
I pop in once in a while because the most accurate and timely information is still located here.
This is where I first learned about the Tucson concert, but alas it was too late and I could not get a good seat so I did not go.
I am now retired, and am very content to do just about nothing at all.
I agree with Karen that this type of format has been overtaken by the Facebook-Twitter phase of the net. However I have gone low-tech in my leisure years and have vowed not to get caught up in that rat-race. I don't even have a cell phone anymore.
Glad to see some of the old-timers are still around and I am pretty sure we can date back all the way to at least 1999 with AGYG for some of us from Melinda's board.
I figure hanging in there with Bernadette will keep us all young!
Jim.
