I'm going to my first Bernadette concert on Saturday, November 4 in Omaha. How dressy are these things usually?

Well, its the Season Gala, so I suspect its a bit dressier than the usual concert.

Here's what I suggest:
do not wear flip-flops;
do not wear jeans;
do not wear a tee-shirt, logo or otherwise;

Do wear something you like and are comfortable in and that makes you look and feel good about yourself;
Do wear something that you would be proud to have a picture taken with Bernadette and placed on this site;

Do wear a little make-up and nice jewelry, perhaps a layered wrap, a sharp pair of fancy slacks and strappy shoes.

If you are attending anything besides the concert--is there an after-concert reception--you can bet that people will be dressed up.

If I remember correctly, you are going with your father ? He might want to wear a tie, and sports jacket, at least, although business casual is great too.

And don't forget your camera and a small piece of paper and a pen, and ...enjoy!!

(And please let us know all about it, that's what the paper/pen are for!)

(Guess who watches Project Runway )

In my experience, people attend in all kinds of things from formal wear to jeans (even at the galas). It's really not possible to look out of place no matter what you do. In other words, it's total personal preference all the way.

This is from the Baltimore Symphony site (I don't know how Omaha and Baltimore compare, but Baltimore is not especially "fancy"):

Q. What should I wear?
A: Although most people wear clothes that they might wear to a nice restaurant, you can make your evening at the symphony as formal or informal as you'd like.

Karen is right, of course, personal preference (and your own common sense of what's right) all the way.

(But personally, I use a concert or a play or an opera as an excuse to dress up a little bit--certainly with a touch of lipstick and a jewel or two, although shoes at my age are beginning to look like your grandmas! )

Thanks for the advice! I will definitely take pictures and write a detailed review.

A nice dress-doesn't need to be formal-or dressy slacks would be fine. Since you're conscientious enough to ask, you'll chose well. Don't obsess over it too much. Save that for your report.

I think I'll wear my black cocktail-ish dress that I wore to Gypsy the first time I saw it (assuming it still fits, I've put on almost 10 pounds since then). If Bernadette can wear the same dress over and over, I can too!

If you go to the Utah Symphony, this is what they have to say:

"What do I wear?
You will see a wide range of clothing at the Symphony. Generally, wearing business casual (slacks, skirts and a nice shirt) will suffice, yet don't feel bashful about dressing up in something more formal!"

Of course, that's the symphony and not a regal performance by our QUEEN. Black cocktail-ish dress sounds great, more dressed up than I'll be @ Strathmore.

From the Omaha Symphony FAQ:

"Frequently Asked Questions
What should I wear?

Although attending the Omaha Symphony is often a special occasion, tuxedos and evening gowns are not required. Most concertgoers dress in business or semi-casual attire. Wear whatever makes you comfortable!"

This is a fun question--maybe I'll do a FAQ for our site tonight.

Don't forget the kilts, sometimes they can be considered as formal wear, like these:
