There were some surprise songs. She looked so beautiful. For Act 1 she was wearing her Avery Fisher Hall dress. So at the beginning Marvin comes on and the orchestra plays the Overture. Then the announcement Ladies and Gentleman Miss Bernadette Peters and she walks onto the stage. She's smiling and starts bowing and then goes straight into Let Me Entertain You. Then she said that she was so happy to be here and she hadn't been here in eight years and the last time she was there she had been singing at the other end of the theater because they kept changing and then she couldn't think of the word so she asked one of the people in the orchestra and she turned around smiling and laughing and said He said joint the word I was looking for was configuration. Then she said that since she was in Cerritos and Cerritos was the car capital of the county it was time to confess about her car. She said that she had a Toyota Corolla a 1974 Toyota Corolla that she got in 1975 when it was brand new and that even though people make fun of her she loves the car and still has it and that she is considering but just considering getting a new car so if there are any car dealers in the audience what do they suggest? Then she said that there was one more thing about Cerritos that she had to say and that it was that\ Cerritos used to produce dairy and that there used to be thirty two thousand cows and a hundred thousand chickens and that now instead of thirty two thousand cows there were thousands of cars and she thinks it's better that way. Then she said Well that song was from Gypsy but I didn't sing that song in Gypsy and I didn't sing the next song I'm going to sing in Into The Woods but this is my show so... and then she sang No One Is Alone. Then she said that she loved listening to old albums and that she was going to sing a song from one of them but it was her first time so please be gentle. And she walked up the stairs snapping her fingers and got onto the piano and sang Fever.
I'll finish this later. Does anyone know how to post the pics? I got some really cute ones of Bernadette playing with my Labrador Retriever.

I think to post the pictures without any delay, you have to put them on an image hosting service and link to them.

I didn't bring the dog to get Bernadette's attention I brought her because we just moved and the dog is scared to stay in the new apt. by herself. But of course as soon as Bernadette walked out she went up to the dog and started playing with her but I'll get to that later.

I can't remeber the order but I think the next one was The Gentleman Is A Dope. Then she said let me sing a song I actually sang in a show and I won a Tony for this role and she sang Unexpected Song.

From: Arizona | posted: 8/27/2006 at 3:42:59 PM ET This was my first time seeing her in concert (I've only seen her in Gypsy) and I was completely blown away. It was a small theater, not nearly as big as I imagined it would be in a place like Cerritos. Even though I waited until the beginning of Aug to buy my ticket, the seat was A LOT better than I imagined. I haven't seen her perform live since Gypsy and as soon as she came out and started Let Me Entertain You I started crying. The highlights for me were No One is Alone, Nothing Like a Dame and Some People, which was a very pleasant surprise. Rose's Turn was also amazing. Like Rose said, she was in a great mood, very energetic, and her voice was absolutely perfect. She totally performed every song with so much energy and enthusiasm. I didn't realize how much she would perform each song if that makes any sense. I was overwhelmed and can't remember the order of the songs so I will let Rose finish that but it was a beyond amazing show. A lot of people were waiting at the stage door and it was a long wait. You could tell she was tired but it didn't affect her mood at all. She was very kind and sweet with everyone as usual and another highlight for me was that she signed a photo I'd taken with her a couple years ago and she spelled my name right! I have a very uncommon name and most people when hearing it, spell it wrong or if they see it written they pronounce it wrong. But I was introduced to her and she said hi and signed the pic without even asking how to spell it, and spelled it perfectly She was wearing a black dress after the show and her hair was half pulled back and she looked gorgeous..some of you may have seen the pics by now. She was in a great mood and seemed veyr much at ease with everything though there were a few sad moments during the concert. It was an amazing evening.

Here's the link to the pics. Sorry I'm taking so long to type this up the concert was the day before I moved from LA to NYC so I haven't had a lot of time but I'm almost settled and will finish soon.

Registered: 6/26/2003 | posted: 8/28/2006 at 3:13:36 AM ET So I braved the LA traffic to get to the Cerritos concert and I'm happy to report that it was well worth taking the time off from work and every frustrating second spent inching down Interstate 5 during the hideous "rush" hour commute. Not that seeing Peters isn't always worth a trek, but what can set concerts apart for me are the acoustics of the venue and the quality of the orchestra and both were top notch. In fact, to my ears, the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts was one of the best sounding venues I've had the pleasure of hearing Peters perform in -- up there with Symphony Hall in Chicago and very much better than Avery Fisher. I wish everyone could always hear her in a place with acoustics that nice. Individually the featured solo musicians might not have been as strong as some of their bigger-city counterparts, but as a group, they were great and nicely in sync, even during the transitions in the overture.
Peters was in fine voice and the basically sold-out hall was filled with a wonderfully appreciative and supportive crowd throughout the show. In fact if the line of people buying CDs at intermission and after the show are any indication, I'd say she picked up a number of fans and made a nice bit of change for the shelter animals on Friday night. She sang 24 songs, basically the Avery Fisher concert with a few additions and a couple of adjustments for the intermission. The big highlight for me was the surprising and fun inclusion of Irving Berlin's "I'm Puttin' All My Eggs in One Basket." She introduced it by saying that Fred Astaire was one of her most favorite performers and that she found this song on one of his albums. The arrangemnt was very jazzy sounding with just piano, bass, and drums, and I loved it especially because I don't think I've ever really heard her sing in quite that style before. And although it didn't have the plaintive harmonica accompaniment, "Shenandoah" was perhaps even more glorious and movingly performed than at Avery. Because the sound system and the acoustics in the theater were so clean and Marvin's piano playing was so gentle and spare, her pure voice just filled the hall in all its beauty during that song. I also thought she sounded especially good during "I Never Thought i'd Break." She sang it a little more simply and directly than I've heard her in the past, but it was very effective.
For the second act, she wore the previous silver concert gown and gathered her hair back rather than putting it up. One of the predictable and amusing things I find at a Peters concert is overhearing people trying to figure out how old she is. During intermission this time, a couple of people were puzzling through her bio while one of them stated that they remembered seeing her on TV a lot in the 70s so she couldn't be in her . . . thirties.
Question for those who are are more observant about such things. I know she has lighiting effects or whatever going on during her concert, but did she have the lighting effects on screens or backdrops at Avery Fisher? At this concert during one of the songs, I noticed they raised the screen and filled the back with lights, like stars in the night sky, and I just seemed to notice more color changes on the back screen than I've seen before or maybe I just lifted my eyes from my binoculars a little more.
Oh and I may not have heard correctly, but I think she actually said that her car was a Toyota Corona which was, I believe, the precursor to the Corolla.
